The Gypsy Vanner Horse now on TV
Mark J. Barrett and his wife Jackie are happy to announce that their video production "The Gypsy Vanner Horse" premiered September 25th on The Pet Network in Canada. The program will run again on 30 dates over the next year, 6 times each date. This is great exposure for the Canadian Gypsy Vanner market and the breed overall. Work is still being done for the US debut.
Mark and Jackie have been supportive members of the GVHS for many years, and have helped promote the breed through wonderful photos, calendars, videos, and other products.

Add Polo to the list when thinking about the Versatility of the Gypsy Vanner Horse !
When professional horsewoman and Gypsy Vanner breeder, Dawn Lott moved her Aurora Acres Gypsy Vanner farm to the Louisville, Kentucky area, she decided to take up the sport of polo. After just a few short months she enlisted the help of Bryce Gill, Programs Manager for Louisville Equestrian Center to help train one of her Vanners to pick up the sport as well. Lott is set to train 3 horses in the coming months for both the polo field and arena polo. Pictured is her 3 year old Gypsy Vanner mare, Luna's Fortune. Welcome to our newest member, Mort Curtis, of Chappell Hill, Texas.
Last month we welcomed our new members and incorrectly stated that new member Judith Anne Mitchell lives in Texas, when in fact Judith and her Pegasus Place Gypsy Vanners are in Beechgrove, Tennessee. | |
The Pleasure's Mine becomes first Royal Qualifier The Pleasure's Mine, a young stallion owned by Steve and Rita Cardy of Fonthill, Ontario Canada, won first place at the Royal Academy All Breeds Show. Winning the Canadian Sport Pony 3 year old and over class has qualified him to compete at the prestigous Royal Winter Agricultural Fair held this November in Toronto. Although the GVHS Canadian Gypsy Vanner Club members have represented the breed for many years at this event with a breed booth, this is the first time a Gypsy Vanner has qualified for a competition portion of the event. The Royal Winter Fair runs November 5th - 14th and you can visit with GVHS members and their horses during this entire event, and see The Pleasure's Mine compete on Sunday, November 14th. To get more information on this event go to the website Royal Fair and to see Pleasure visit him at Vannor Manor

Meet the Judge : Jenny Pierucki |
I have been a Horse Show Judge for 17 years. I hold cards with Michigan, New England, Wisconsin, POAC, ASPC/AMHR/ASPR, TWHBEA, AHHA, UMH/AGMH, USEF-Morgan, Gypsy Vanner Horse Society and the Gypsy Horse Registry of America. I am presently working on judge's cards with USEF-National Show Horse, and Pinto Horse. In the near future, I would also like to obtain judges cards with USEF-Friesian, Shetland and ADS. I own and show Morgan Horses and have formerly owned Arabians, Shetland Ponies, Draft Horses, a Quarter Horse/Morgan Cross and a Tennessee Walking Horse. I hold World Titles and Top Ten Honors in Equitation, Showmanship, Driving, Halter, and Pleasure Divisions. I judge Open, 4-H, MIHA, Draft, POAC, ASPC/AMHR/ASPR, and TWHBEA Shows as well as Arabian Shows, Morgan Shows, Jumping, Dressage, Driving, Dressage Driving, Sport Horse shows, fairs, state shows, regional shows, state qualifying events, give clinics, and lessons. I have worked with and judged the following breeds: Morgan's, Arabians, Saddlebreds, National Shows Horses, Tennessee Walking Horses, Missouri Fox Trotters, Haflingers, Norwegian Fjords, Andalusians, Friesians, Quarter Horses, Thoroughbreds, Paint Horses, POA's, Appaloosa's, Quarter Ponies, Morabs, Hackney Ponies and Horses, Miniature Horses, Draft Horses, Mules and Donkeys, Show Ponies and various other breeds. In 2006 I ring mastered the Haflinger Nationals in Mason, Michigan and in 2007 I ring mastered an Andalusian Show on the East Coast. This year in 2009, I was one of the officials at the AMHR Nationals in Tulsa. I have managed several 4-H and Open shows, and have also assisted on the committee for a local breed (Morgan) show. I have shown and judged the following divisions: Showmanship, Halter, Saddle Seat and Hunt Seat Equitation and Pleasure classes, Horsemanship, Western Pleasure, Bareback, Trail, Pleasure and Carriage Driving, Jumping, Dressage, Side Saddle, Dressage Driving, Obstacles, Reining, English and Western Riding Pattern, as well as fun events such as Contesting, Egg and Spoon, Costume, Pairs and Doubles classes.
The Gypsy Vanner is a beautiful animal. They have a lot of presence and demand attention. They also show their versatility and have a wonderful temperment that make it such a great family and show horse. I think the standard is very clear and easy to understand in describing the breed. The Gypsy Vanner can absolutely maintain its breed type and keep athletic ability. I judge conformation and athletic ability in each halter class, each horse individually and look for balance, conformation and type, muscling and which animal overall best represents the breed. The judges seminar is a wonderful tool to teach judges about the breed.
Now that I have judged a Gypsy Vanner show, I can safely say I can't wait to judge more. The breed is exquisite and this show did have some of the best this industry has to offer. I was honored that the top show barns were there and I look forward to seeing what this breed has to offer in the future. I don't know what else to say except this show was a wonderful opportunity to judge some beautiful horses, meet some wonderful people that I think had a good time at the show and I'm looking forward to more shows in the future. This breed is definitely making its mark in the horse industry and I can't wait to see what the future has to bring to this breed. I am looking forward to a long and successful relationship with the Gypsy Vanner organization. Jenny M. Pierucki 414 N. Fifth Street Burr Oak, MI 49030 (269) 489-5500 jingles49030@core.com
