What a great way to get to know each other and celebrate the wonderful Gypsy Vanner Breed.

The Annual Meeting is the next evening at 5PM, Saturday, February 27th.
Following the meeting there will be an awards presentation and fund raising auction.  Dinner will be served.

We have a lovely large room for our annual meeting, and in addition to the display of auction items, there will be plenty of space for those that wish to provide information about their farms.  If you wish to provide a more formal presentation we can also arrange for that.

The grounds of the FCMR are a beautiful spot for a stroll and be sure and try to make time to visit the carriage museum.

Breed Standard Clarification

breed std front

There has been some confusion regarding the intent of our Breed Standard in the section referring to the front legs of the Gypsy Vanner Horse.  This issue has been raised to the Board of Directors, who after much discussion and careful consideration has voted to revise the wording in order to clarify the actual intent.  The last paragraph of the section on the front legs has been changed from:

The width between the forelegs should be less than the width of the chest when the horse is posed standing. This is a desirable trait in draft horses to be essentially base narrow, for working in furrows. Care must be taken to not exaggerate the acceptance of the base narrow condition, while maintaining form to function .

that last paragraph now reads as follows:

Historically in some draft breeds it was preferred that the width between the forelegs at the base should be less than the width at the chest in order to more efficiently work in furrows. Given the core genetics of the breed there may be a tendency in this direction. Care must be taken to not exaggerate the acceptance of the base narrow condition, while maintaining form to function structure.

It is important that this paragraph not be taken out of context and that the whole of the standard with respect to legs be read.  You can find the entire Gypsy Vanner Horse Breed Standard on the website at www.vanners.org in the section About The Breed.
