Feature article
Resistance (part 2) - Columbo style
How to identify resistance

Columbo

Resistance to change, we define here, as the negative reaction which is driven by strongly held emotions about the change, and yet can come across in what can be quite different 'presenting behaviour'.

The difference between the hidden rooted emotions and the presenting behaviour is where our challenge lays as change leaders, and it requires us to be highly perceptive and able to engage in challenging dialogue.  To make things harder, resistance has many forms, it evolves over time and we have to identify if it is resistance at all...  Read on...

People Deliver Change
One day experiential event - London - March 8th 2012

A unique one-day event where professional actors play the stakeholders in a complex change scenario of influence and politics.

By following the story, the audience learn new skills and behaviours.  Increasingly the audience takes control of the action and who knows what outcomes may evolve...

The experiential event is ideal for all those involved in change whether leading it or experiencing it.

Book review
Outside the Nutshell by John Coyle
reviewed by Andy Taylor
John Coyle book - nutshell

...In the end I stopped scratching my head, and decided that it was refreshing to see a 'real' project manager abandon the traditional dull forms of pm writing, and to compose a book which is thought provoking and kind of, well, slightly random.

If you have a couple of hours on a journey to get a different take on projects, this could fit the job.  To dip in and out of, it would not look out of place in any project manager's loo !

Free seminar
Leading People Through Change
Free half day seminar comes to Leeds - March 16th

This half day seminar tackles the people challenge of change and making it stick.

The seminar covers; stakeholder behaviour, change resistance and much more - it's a pretty packed morning but one that we hope you will find topical and a valuable use of your time.

More than ever, projects are about delivering change in an increasingly unstable world.  Project management and change methodologies are useful, but far from sufficient and in this environment, the people side of projects and change becomes critical.

It's not a powerpoint marathon but interactive to help you deal with the challenge, if you are interested in this complimentary event, please visit our website for more information and to register
