 NOTE FROM DAN:

Hello Everyone,

I hope that all of you are having a great start to your fall/winter season. I have seen many of you enjoying the programs, classes, and activities sponsored by the YMCA. I hope that you will stay diligent in your pursuit of the new and improved you. If there is anything we can do to help, please don't hesitate to let us know. We are here to help; If we don't have the answer we will get it for you.

As many of you know we had an unexpected shut down of the pool during the last two weeks of October. I want to apologize for the inconvenience that this may have caused any of you. As a YMCA staff and board we have been working hard to continually maintain the wonderful building we have the pleasure to manage. In recent inspections we discovered that the cables holding up the acoustical ceiling tiles in the pool ceiling were becoming corroded. After careful inspection and removal of sample cables for lab testing, the architect, installer, general contractor, and the YMCA Board all agreed that the safest and most prudent course of action would be to remove the panels all together. This called for immediate action, thus the short notice for the closure. The ceiling tiles main function is to provide better acoustics. We hope the acoustical qualities in the room will remain good for our members. If there is a problem in the future with the noise in the room we will look at other options to solve this problem. Again, I thank you for your understanding of the situation and I apologize for the inconvenience.

In positive news we were able to take advantage of this time to install a swim timing system. This new system features state of the art touch pads for each of the six swim lanes, computer programming to control and record results, and a monochrom LED matrix display. We are thankful for the individuals, companies, and organizations that made this new system possible. Those contributing to the project were Cass County Endowment, First Whitney Bank and Trust, J & J Custom Graphic Design, Atlantic
Hy-Vee, Wal-Mart, Atlantic Bottling Company, and a memorial in honor of Lyle Esbeck. We appreciate the individuals and organizations commitment to the community through their generous donation to this YMCA project. Support of youth through this project is a testament to the great investment these individuals and organizations make in their community every day. Thank You!

Investment....this leads me to the conclusion of my column. As we start to move to the end of 2009, I would like to close up the 2009 Partnership With Youth Campaign. There are over 100 of our friends who gave to last year's campaign but have not made their donation for this year. We are currently at $53,000 toward our $80,000 goal. We realize that this year has been different from most. However, when everyone does a little, we make a big difference in the lives of kids and families in our communities. We currently have more need for scholarship and program assistance than at any other time in our history. As we close this year's campaign we hope that if you gave last year but have not yet in 2009 that you would consider matching last year's amount by the end of the year. If you have not given to the campaign before, I would ask you to consider a gift to help the YMCA carry out its charitable mission of building healthy spirit, body, and mind for all.

In closing, as we move into the Thanksgiving Season, I want to express my sincere thanks to each of you for your friendship, membership, and participation in your YMCA and its work in our communities. I am constantly amazed at the true community we have become here at your YMCA. If you have not had your Spirit, Mind, or Body lifted lately I invite you in to experience the YMCA. We want you to be part of the YMCA family.

I hope to see you soon!

Dan
