Consumer Electronic Show (CES) Review: bringing the new into the 'now'

In early January, Integration Controls visited the Consumer Electronics show in Las Vegas, NV.  We saw more TVs, iPod/iPad accessories, and cell phone gadgets to last a lifetime.  Even with the plethora of electronics, custom cars, and phone accessories, a few clear messages rang true throughout:
  • The 'connected home' is getting smarter with the advent of smart TVs (web-connected) and appliances (yep, those too).  With it, the need for a solid, reliable home network is increasing.  Make these considerations as you plan for your new home or remodel.
  • 3D TVs may soon be available without glasses.  Many manufacturers are in development, some with pretty nice results (Toshiba for instance). With or without, a headache may still result... literally.  Read this warning from Samsung.
  • The iRevolution (and its competition) is not going away any time soon.  Expect to see more options, features, and capabilities out of your 'smart phone'.

Design - Build - Remodel
advice from the professionals

If you are in the market to design, build, or remodel a project - take a few of these tips with you as you begin your journey.
  • The project will almost always cost more than you expected and last longer than you expected, but if done right, will produce a more rewarding finished product! - Kimberly Reuther, K Designs, founder of designspeak.
  • Expect:
    • Some conflicts with your architect and contractor.  Keep a level head and insist the parties meet together to resolve differences.
    • To be thrilled in the end if you chose appropriately for your architect and contractor. - Tom Niemeier, SPACE Architecture + Design. (See their new video here)
  • The wish list is usually larger than the budget.
