Attention Home Schooling Families!
Legal technicality allows discrimination against homeschoolers with special needs!
Alert! School districts in Delaware provide certain services for children with special needs based on a variety of factors. Based on a legal technicality, home schoolers are defined as "non-public" schools while private Christian schools are labeled as "private" schools. While those legal labels don't mean anything to most of us, to a home schooler with special needs, they mean the difference between getting services at a local public school and being denied those services. What this means is that the federal and state government provide for students at private Christian schools to get services for special needs at the local public school alongside their public school counterparts. However, home schoolers can be denied the same services.
The good news is that local public schools do have the option to correct this wrong and provide the same services to homeschoolers!
This Thursday night Cape Henlopen School Board will be discussing services for homeschool students with special needs. We are asking you to come, wear your DFPC lanyard if you are a member, and show your support for homeschoolers with special needs! A show of support is needed.
Please come this Thursday night to Beacon Middle School at 7pm. The address is 19483 John J Williams Highway in Lewes.
