Greetings!
Lately I've been thinking about the ways that people lash
out when they are hurt, angry or afraid. Pain, anger and fear are powerful emotions...powerful enough
to transform a kind and compassionate person into someone so warped
with resentment and hatred that they are hardly recognizable to family and
friends. Many times in a divorce, I will hear from one or both of the
spouses; "I never knew that this person that I loved so deeply for so many
years was capable of such evil." Being a Christian doesn't protect us from these demonic
forces that would cause us to think and act in ways that are absolutely counter
to the ways of Jesus. Filled with
righteous indignation we destroy community, slander our neighbors and spread
our misery all the while, unaware of the evil that is powering our actions. Yet, there is forgiveness and there is hope. Jesus, the one who casts out demons, calls us
to the cross to experience his love. Jesus, the light of the world, exposes our pain and renders it powerless
in the glory of his forgiveness. Called
out from the corners of darkness and anonymity, Jesus speaks our name and there
is life.
