This Week's Devotion
Graze and Peas
by Pastor Tony Haglund
Grace to you and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.
Ephesians 1:2
A greeting like this is found at the beginning of every one of Paul's letters in the New Testament. For decades, preachers have used similar words as a prelude to their sermons. The phrase has become so commonplace, that we hardly think about it when we hear it or say it. Mocking how often Christian's use the phrase a friend of mine has started ending his correspondence with the words "Graze and Peas". (say it quickly and you'll get the joke)
Yet, do we know that when we wish one another grace and peace, we are wishing nothing less than the very fulfillment of the Kingdom of God? Grace for forgiveness, peace for the fear and shame. If we all knew grace and peace in our lives and in our hearts, we would indeed be living the abundant life that Jesus is so desperate for us to grab a hold of.
So let's wish one another grace and peace like we mean it. After all, its a wish for our brother and sister's salvation. And when someone wishes us grace and peace, let us become aware of what a precious gift they desire for our lives, and then receive that gift from God with joy.
Now, as we prepare for the days ahead, may God grant us all grace and peace...that the Kingdom may come on earth, as it is in heaven. |
