A Pilgrim Song of David

How wonderful, how beautiful,
when brothers and sisters get along!

It's like costly anointing oil,
flowing down head and beard, flowing down Aaron's beard, flowing down the collar of his priestly robes.

It's like the dew on Mount Hermon
flowing down the slopes of Zion.

Yes, that's where God commands the blessing,
ordains eternal life.
Psalm 133 The Message Bible transaltion

What is the value of unity?  Is it unity if I have to stuff my feelings and opinions aside as if they don't matter?  How much can a person be expected to sacrifice just for the sake of getting along?

I don't know.

I know I don't want to be a phony.  I know I don't want to be hypocritical.  I want to stand up for what I believe in.  I want my life and my witness to count.

Is it possible to have both?  Can we say what we believe in the midst of those who would disagree?  Can we be who we really are and still be in relationship with those much different from ourselves?

We do it all the time in our families don't we?  With our parents, our siblilngs?  We don't always get along, we don't always agree - do we?????  And yet, our blood is thicker than our differences and has the power to keep us together.

Maybe Jesus' blood is also thicker than our differences.  Maybe his blood, poured out for us for the forgiveness of sins has the power to heal and bind together?  Maybe Jesus' blood is the anointing oil we truly need today.
