Greetings!

We put out this weekly devotion and newsletter to keep members and friends of our congregation up-to-date on current happenings.  If you know of someone who might like this information, please forward this to them and encourage them to join our mailing list.  Its easy and its free.  God bless and we hope to see you on Sunday.

"What then are we to say about these things?  If God is for us, who is against us?" - Romans 8:31

This past weekend we had some new friends over to share a campfire.  As we sat around laughing and telling stories, I decided to share an embarassing story of when I was a young boy on my first deer hunt and I mistook a cow for a skunk, only discovering my mistake after pulling the trigger and hearing a loud "MOOOO!"  (Yes, my Dad had to buy the dead cow from the farmer who was very understanding of my stupidity.)

As the laughter was dying down, someone jokingly said, "if that were my story, I would never tell a soul."  My immediate thought was; "what a blessing to be surrounded by friends when we can feel safe enough even to share our most embarassing moments."

Too often in life, I get overly concerned about what I imagine people think about me and as a result, I keep myself guarded and at a distance.  Yet because Jesus loves me, I have been set free to be open and vulnerable before others knowing that even if another person rejects me, still I have love and acceptance in the one who truly matters, Jesus Christ.

When we share our lives with one another (both the successes and the failures), we allow God to increase our joy and minimize our sorrows.  When we share our lives with one another, we become a source of support and courage for others who mistakenly believe that they need to hide who they truly are.  When we share our lives with one another, we live into our identity as children of God and we show the world that there is indeed a better way to live.
What's Happening at the Church

We Need Your Help
We are looking for people that can help us get communion ready, refill our oil candles and make sure the small details of worship are attended to each week.  This is the important work of the Altar Guild and we are in need of people interested in this important ministry.  Most Altar Guild members serve during 2 months of the whole year so the time committment isn't huge and people that are a part of this ministry know they are engaging in work that really matters.  If you're interested, e-mail Brenda Heggen at rbheggen@iw.net
Adopt-a-Student
Adopt-A-Student for back to school 2009-10! Love, INC is asking for your help to send local students (in need) to school with a backpack of grade-appropriate school supplies.  All you do is take a bookmark from the poster displayed at CLC, sign your name, shop and return the items to the church office by August 2. If you have questions about this or would like to make a cash donation, please contact Janet Henke at parisheduc@iw.net or 764-2429.
Time to Register for Sunday and Wednesday School
The July Newsletter that was mailed on Monday includes a registration form for 3 years old - 6th grade religious education.  Please consider the new test schedule for next fall, see if you prefer Sunday or Wednesday, fill out the form and get those back to us as soon as possible.  For questions contact Janet Henke, Christian Education Director at parisheduc@iw.net
New Fall Schedule Proposed
One of the fun problems we have at CLC is an abudance of Sunday School students with not quite enough space.  This fall we are proposing adding a second Sunday School session to help address this issue - the twist is that this second Sunday School session will be on Wednesday nights!  Look for more information in the July newsletter but begin thinking now whether Wednesday night Sunday School might be an option for your family.  In addition to Wednesday School we will also be offering an additional worship service that might be really helpful for families that have to travel a lot on weekends.  Following is our proposed Fall Schedule that we would like to test:

Saturday
Worship at 5:00 p.m.

Sunday
Sunday School at 8:45 a.m.
Worship at 9:30 a.m.

Wednesday
Sunday School & Confirmation at 6:15 p.m.
Worship at 7:00 p.m.
