Time to Get Back into the Normal Swing of Things!
by Milana Davydova 2012
After exciting Chol HaMoed programming, three day Yom Tovs giving us five day weekends, it is time for us to get back into the normal swing of things! Students were snapped back to reality with assignments and projects due throughout the week, along with the PSAT on Wednesday all underclassmen took.
SPORTS RECAP
On Tuesday the NYHS 613s took on the Eastside Prep Eagles in NYHS's final home game and Senior Night. Congratulations to seniors Makena Owens, Ilana Greenberg, Dena Phillips, and Jennifer Mendoza who have dedicated so much time, effort, and leadership in helping the 613s accomplish so much over the past four years in volleyball. Read more about it in the MI Patch.
NYHS emerged victorious over the Eagles and sealed the second seed for the volleyball team they participated in on Thursday. This tournament determined what seed NYHS will get in districts. NYHS triumphed over Mount Rainier Lutheran and continued onto the championship game against Christian Faith. Unfortunately Christian Faith pulled through, but nevertheless, the NYHS 613s volleyball team is going to Districts! The first win against Mount Rainier Lutheran secured the second seed to Districts. Tune in to find out how the ladies do in their first district game! We wish our ladies the best of luck in the districts and are so proud of their accomplishments!
Have a restful weekend, and a wonderful Shabbat!
Shabbat Shalom!

Send them to Melissa Rivkin at mrivkin@nyhs.netCheck out Aaron Katsman's most recent article on investing: Retirement Income-Are non-traded REITs the solution? _____________________________________ Mushky Notik 2008 with Elana Hasson 2014 Mushky Notik 2008 is currently a senior at the University of Washington and will be graduating this spring from the School of Nursing with a BSN (Bachelors of Science in Nursing) degree. After graduation, she plans to take her boards to get licensed as a RN (Registered Nurse). She's been on the Dean's list every quarter at UW and was on the annual Dean's list for the nursing school. She spends her school breaks in NY visiting her siblings and adorable niece and nephews. Upon graduation, her big plan is to move to NY and find a job as a nurse. After she works as a nurse and gets experience in the field, she will strongly consider the option of going on to get her Master's in nursing to become a nurse practitioner. She has played basketball with other Yeshiva alumni on intramural teams at UW and loves seeing them around campus.

Gabi Feuer 2001 Gabi Feuer graduated from NYHS in 2001 and studied at Yeshiva B'nai Torah in Far Rockaway. He then entered Touro College and earned a BS in Management and Marketing. While at Touro College and Yeshiva B'nai Torah Gabi was enlisted by a local family to teach their three middle school children general studies to complement their home schooling. For the past four years, Gabi has been living in New York City and is a Senior Mortgage Consultant at Universal Mortgage. Gabi says, "I have fond memories of Yeshiva and value the education I received. I am grateful for both the Judaic and General Studies programs at the Yeshiva that truly prepared me not just for college, but for life as an adult. The ability to think critically, organize my thoughts logically and categorically are skill that I use daily in my business and personal life. Without these tools I would not be where I am today."

Zelle Rettman 2010

I am now a sophomore at Brandeis University in Waltham, MA. I'm keeping EXTREMELY busy. I am taking four classes this semester: True Crime in American Culture, Directed Writing: Short Fiction, Classic Hollywood Cinema, and Indian Film: The Three Hour Dream. Aside from classes I am involved in a bunch of clubs, and I have a job that I love. I have joined STAR, an acronym for the club Students Talking About Relationships. It is a one-on-one peer counseling group that deals with relationships ranging from parents and romantic partners to food and music - a relationship is whatever you have a relationship with. I have been trained in many difficult subjects including suicides, eating disorders, domestic violence and sexual abuse in order to provide the best help to whomever comes during my office hours, which are held for 2.5 hours per week. Aside from STAR I am involved with BTV (Brandeis Television) club, and BZA (Brandeis Zionist Alliance). BTV has its own channel on cable TV to broadcast the films and shows that it creates. It is granted funds to bring in prominent speakers, pay actors and actresses, and purchase the necessary equipment to carry out projects, many of which are sent to film festivals and competitions. BZA, is one of the pro-Israel groups on campus. I, together with a friend, have been designated the group video specialist. We film all the events and create promo videos for BZA, Brandeis and Israel. In addition to classes and clubs I work in the Library at the Getz Media Lab as a software and equipment specialist. The lab has 25 computers for people to work with media programs such as Final Cut Pro and Soundtrack Pro and Photoshop. We also are trained in using camera and recording equipment that are available for rent and we teach people how to use the equipment. I have also recently been accepted to be a tour guide on campus and will begin training shortly. Recently I declared my major to be Film and soon I will be looking to declare a minor in English (maybe a double major, who knows!). At the same time as I was declaring my Film major, I received an email of acceptance into the David Project's Israel Advocacy Film Seminar that will take place mid November in Baltimore. This past summer I participated in Brandeis's JBS Film Summer Program in which we spent two months learning the art of script writing, film editing and film production, and making numerous short films. In the middle of October intramural volleyball will start and I am part of a team including two friends from NYHS: Shoshana Goldberg 2010 and Marina Garkavi 2009. I am really looking forward to playing volleyball again - after four years of playing at NYHS and three before that at SHA, I am need of a volleyball fill. In short, I'm busy and I am loving it! |
