Meta-Musing
Escape from the Valley of Tears

Blessings to You!

The
world is weeping at the loss of the great singer, Whitney Houston. Last week we wept for the Powell children; innocent young lives needlessly cut short. There is certainly no shortage of tears on Planet Earth. We weep for those lost through disease, accident, murder, war, suicide, addiction and natural disaster to name a few. We weep for loss of financial security or relationships. We weep, and then life goes on until again, we have cause to weep.

What if...What if useless unnecessary suffering could be forever eliminated? Can you even wrap your mind around that? Here is the most challenging part...we already have everything it takes to change; to manifest a world of health, harmony, abundance and peace, but we cannot or will not change. .

Why won't we change? The work of practicing the principles is simple, but it is not easy. Change can be uncomfortable and inconvenient. Change may make you unpopular, or you may face rejection. But the rewards are priceless. Life is meant to be good, unless we choose, individually or collectively to make it otherwise.

To plan your escape...read on!

Revelation 21:1-5

"Then I saw a new heaven and a new earth; for the first heaven and the first earth had passed away, and the sea was no more. And I saw the holy city, new Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband; and I heard a loud voice from the throne saying, "Behold, the dwelling of God is with men. He will dwell with them, and they shall be his people, and God himself will be with them; he will wipe away every tear from their eyes, and death shall be no more, neither shall there be mourning nor crying nor pain any more, for the former things have passed away." And he who sat upon the throne said, "Behold, I make all things new."

Unity Wisdom

Before there is any fundamental social or economic change men must begin to understand their relationship to God and to one another as common heirs to the universal resource that is sufficient for all. They must give up some of their erroneous ideas about their "rights."

Charles Fillmore: Prosperity

Unity teaches positive thinking and practical, Universal spirituality from a Christian perspective. Positive Thinking is a core belief of the Unity teaching. And...there are times when we must take a long, hard look at things that do not appear positive, trying to see how good can come from it. This is the nature of today's Meta-Musing.

I don't know about you, but frankly I have heard too many news reports of useless unnecessary loss, pain and suffering. I do not wish to hear about yet another celebrity who seemingly had it all, but lost it all to addiction. I have watched too many vigils and solemn faced news reporters telling us of the latest atrocities against the gift of life we have each been blessed with. I feel frustrated looking at smoking, twisted wreckage that was once a car, crashed by a drunken driver.

After the memorials, and the tears, the accusations and deifying the person or persons who died and demonizing the person presumed to be at cause, life returns to what we call "normal."  We do not often hear of lifestyle changes made by the mourners, or action to institute changes in laws or human consciousness.

It is frustrating because the news media reports problems only; over, and over, and over. They do not offer solutions.  Too many people are either apathetic or unaware that the problem is greater than the incident, and the problem can be solved, and if it is not solved it will repeat.

Have you ever thought: "Somebody ought to do something!" But who? And what? The "who" is you, and me; individually and collectively. The "what" is practice the Principles, live in alignment with Spiritual Law, and as appropriate teach others, especially our children.

Understanding the root law we call the Law of Cause and Effect, it is time to stop weeping at effects and start seeking and addressing causes. Only when we heal cause can we change effect.

On the way to the church, I pass the spot where a few years ago a young man speeding on a motorbike was unable to negotiate the turn, hit a tree and died. The spot has become a memorial of sorts, with flowers, ribbons and even skateboards nailed to the tree that he hit. But the young people still speed up and down the streets on their motorbikes and cycles. Perhaps something needs to be added to the memorial, "Slow Down. Don't let this happen to you."

I would venture to say that you are a spiritually awakened person because this article has found its way to your eyes, and you have chosen to read it. As a spiritually awakened person however, you are no longer an ordinary person. You no longer have the luxury of ignorance of the sleeping soul. Once awakened we have the responsibility of fulfilling our potential as powerful children of God, and agents of positive change in the world.

The path of spiritual awareness is, for the most part, "The New Frontier." Those on the path are like torchbearers, boldly bringing light to human consciousness; "the collective perspective." We are not alone. We are a part of the new dawn of awareness when, and as we choose to be.

It is time for change; time to stop repeating the same ineffective actions, the same way, and expecting a different result. Beyond the perceived limitation of "The way it is," lies an unlimited realm of possibility. It is available to each of us

The next time you hear a news report, or something happens in your life that troubles you, I invite you to seek out the principle at work; the cause that brought that effect. In the case of drugs, it is neither the addict nor even the supplier that is the cause, it is the error thought that we can fix what is inside with something outside of ourselves, that we can escape facing our fears and pain.

Deep within, each of us wants to be loved, accepted and secure. We must find a way to make the connection to the Truth that we are loved, accepted, secure and worthy!

Ultimately we will all be changed. We will escape the Valley of Tears. How long it takes depends on how long we are willing to suffer. Frankly I've had enough. I know that there is a better way. That is what I have dedicated my life to. That is why I have written the words you are reading.

Perhaps we can't change the world today and we can't really run away from it. But we certainly can make change in ourselves that will enable us to meet and master our environment and grow in the process. We will teach with our lives. If each one teaches one, dramatic change will follow!

How about you? Are you ready to escape from the Valley of Tears?
