|Blessings to you!
In Unity we teach that we are all beautiful and beloved Children of God. We give thanks that we all have the Spark of Divinity within, and it sure feels good!
However, we are also animals. Members of the animal kingdom. Yes. human beings, living in a physical body with animal instincts. Though most of us won't admit it we belch, preen, sweat, lust, strut, and volley for position, in any number of ways "mark our territory" and volley for leadership of "the pack."
Our mission, should we choose to accept it, is to spiritualize the human part, as Jesus did, to fully express Christ. This is what Jesus was calling us to do when He said, "Follow me."
To me, this is like training a wild horse. Not by cruelly "breaking it" like in old Western movies, but more like the Horse Whisperer, gently guiding and loving the animal into compliance and partnership.
Sometimes we do tend to be like the cruel horse trainers, trying to break the spirit of the animal, condemning or criticizing our perceived flaws, faults or failings. We may try to force ourselves into a mold determined by human consciousness, society, culture or fashion. We go to great lengths to alter our appearance, deny our age, and deny our uniqueness.
As we go through the transformation process, let us be gentle with ourselves...and let us be firm with ourselves. Our bodies may not be the proportions fashion is dictating this season. Our athletic skills may be less than stellar, and grades in school just 'average'. In spite of our best efforts we may have uncooperative digestion systems, uncontroled blushing, type "A" personalities, or low energy. So what? As Jesus said, "What is that to you? Follow ME."
As we strive toward Spiritual Mastery, let us remember "I have a body, but I am not my body. I am Spirit. I have a mind but I am not my mind, I am Spirit. I have a personality but I am not my personality, I am Spirit."
I invite you to come to know and love your human part. I like to watch people, and imagine what kind of animal they would be. I've already determined that I would probably be a Jack Russell Terrier. Okay...a chubby one. But like the Jack Russell I see myself fun-loving, energy-filled and adventuresome, loving anyone who will play with me.
What about you? What kind or animal would you be? If you were...how would you train this animal to be a good companion?
Want to have a little fun? Here is a link to a quiz that will give you an idea what kind of animal you are like. http://www.animalinyou.com/
As for me, I'm going to go see if I can find a place to curl up and take a snooze after chasing my tail all day.
PS...I'd love to know what kind of animal YOU are!
