What Christmas Feels Like
Acts 17

"And he made from one every nation of men to live on all the face of the earth, having determined allotted periods and the boundaries of their habitation,
[ that they should seek God, in the hope that they might feel after him and find him. Yet he is not far from each one of us,
for `In him we live and move and have our being'"

Feeling is external to thought; behind every feeling or emotion there lies thought, which is its direct cause. To change a feeling, a change of thought is required.

Each year I hear people say, "It just doesn't 'feel' like Christmas. I was thinking about that today and thought to myself...so...what does Christmas FEEL like?

I do not deny that some would say that it depends on the person, and their expectation based on their experiences of the past and their desires for this year.

But I think its more than that...Christmas as a Divine Idea is the celebration of something greater than ourselves. It is beyond our earthly relationships, current events and grander than any gift under the tree. Too often our expectations are hung on what is under the tree, and not the power and intelligence of the creator of the tree.

Christmas feels like Hope in the midst of a world that seems to go evermore insane each year. Too often we hang our expectations of hope on power and politics. "The hopes and fears of all the years are met in thee tonight," are the thoughts, words...prayer of the song "O Little Town of Bethlehem." Christmas feels like hope for a better tomorrow and all our tomorrows, beyond our human comprehension.

Christmas feels like Peace. Think Peace. Feel it...comfort...ease...harmony...safety... security. Too often we hang our expectations of peace on controlling people or circumstances in our lives. The Divine Promise is the "peace that passes understanding." Christmas feels like peace... manifesting not through our manipulation, but through surrendering our need to control as we trust Spirit and live lives of peace and harmony.

Christmas feels like Love. In our great confusion and lack of understanding about love, too often we hang our expectations of love on personal relationships. The love of God is so very much greater than that. Christmas feels like love when we simply let that love flow without limits...just like the unconditional Love of God.

Christmas feels like Joy. Joy is a free gift of God. It is ours to enjoy at any time. Unfortunately too often we hang our expectation for joy on circumstances in our lives rather than the wonder and miracle that each day is. Christmas feels like joy as we release the energy of joy in our thoughts, words, feelings to everyone whose lives touch ours.

Christmas feels like Holiness...wholeness...Oneness with God, with each other...with all creation. Jesus' birth was intended to bridge the chasm of the illusion of separation that WE formed through error thoughts and words...re-uniting us in the Oneness of God. This is the underlying vibration...the humming of the Divine Ideas of love, peace, hope and joy...calling us together to BE One.

A great place to feel the holiness of Christmas is church. It is a coming together of kindred spirits seeking relationship with God and each other. Whatever church you attend...or even if this would be the first time you have entered a church in many years...or ever! Absorb the light of the candles... stirring up the light within your own soul. Pray the prayers, ponder the meditations. Sing the songs....they say "He (or she) who sings, prays twice."

If you live in the Middlesex or New Haven County area, you are warmly invited to share Christmas Eve with us at our Christmas Eve service Thursday, Dec. 24th. at 7:00 p.m. at 78 North Moodus Road in Moodus. We will sing the songs, pray the prayers, meditate on the meaning and reclaim the Spirit of Christmas...and how it FEELS.
