Greetings!    
 
Would you agree that a large part of the joy of the holiday season is in expressing your love and gratitude toward those who are dear to you? Whether it's a business colleague, an old friend from years ago or your spouse, you have ways of showing you care that are meaningful to both of you.   
 
Our communication and interaction is unique with each relationship.
  The level of intimacy and understanding shared forms the basis of the relationship. It is that understanding - a mutual comprehension and connection if you will - that provides satisfaction and belonging. 
 
So with that in mind, let's talk about marketing.  Marketing is communication. It is a specific communication to your specific audience about the specific problem you solve. "If you try to speak to everyone, you speak to no one." See second article below to learn more!

How much business is being lost because your existing clients feel undervalued?   
 
The other night I was flicking through the Holiday Songbook that came in the local newspaper. What I noticed, aside from brushing up on my Christmas songs, was all the ads that were wishing their clients the best of the season. While we understand the strategy (nice gesture, and an opportunity to get their brand in front of a larger audience) how effective is it?  Who is it speaking to?  Everyone...? 
 
Let me ask you this, how do you feel when you receive a form letter compared to a personalized note, recommendation, or thank you? Any warm fuzzies? Or how about the oodles of ad mail listing benefits and sales? 
 
When you receive a personalized thank you, you know it was written JUST FOR YOU.

 
Do you keep the personalized thank you and file the rest under g-a-r-b-a-g-e? Does the card sit on your desk for awhile? Maybe a long while?

Although there are many aspects to marketing, essentially, it's EFFECTIVE marketing that matters.
