Dance, Party, Swap, Scout, Spook, Yay!
Brace yourself - things are about to get a little craZee at Twirl! October 1st always gets us excited as it signals the beginning of our most fun and festivity-filled time of the year. Already we're planning this year's holiday festival, and while the grand theme is still underwraps (let's just say it will require tiny minds and hands to go to work), we need HELP!! We're looking for any unwanted teeny tiny toys or objects you might have clogging up the closets, or worse, that you're constantly tripping over. Anything goes, as long as it's 3" or under -figurines, dinos, critters, people, animals, cars, trees, buttons, bugs - all inanimate please!
Thanks to all who attended our clothes-swapping, ironing-on extravaganza - great turnout, great outfits scored, great fun! We enjoyed it so much that we're having another one, with a dress-up slant this time - perfect for all those kids who've grown out of their old personas, both physically and mentally, and long to be some shiny new character. Come swap out those old Spidermen outfits, just in time for Halloween. Our Dress-Up/Costume Swap will take place on Friday October 22nd from 3pm - 5pm and will include a giant Silly Bandz swap.
Once you've got your outfit planned, join us for some seriously wicked Halloween fun on Sunday October 31. From 5pm - 7pm, we'll be opening up the courtyard for our freaky deaky Halloween Open House. There'll be ghoulish games and glow-in-the-dark treats and you'll be able to make your own scary pin-packed buttons. We'll also be serving hot dogs and beans and cheese to keep the hunger monsters at bay before night-time trick and treating - all for free. Stop by after the Plaza fun - BOO to you! And check out our new feature in this month's newsletter - Craft of the Month with Angela and Max!- for an easy Halloween project you can do at home with your kids.
One date for this week's diary is Kids' Day at the Taos Farmers' Market on Saturday in the Town Hall Parking Lot. Twirl will be providing a FREE bean mosaic project along with face-painting - look out for our banner.
While we like to think we have our finger on the pulse when it comes to finding great products for the store, we're also not afraid to ask for help. In our experience, some of the best ideas come from the kids we serve. Twirl Rangers is a chance for those bright ideas to get the recognition they deserve. We're looking for kids who'd like to become scouts for Twirl, seeking out toys, games and other stuff they think other kids their age would enjoy. Suggest something that we end up carrying and you'll get one of them for free. We're happy to hear from older scouts too, so if you have any ideas, email molly@twirlhouse.com or come fill out a form in store.
Wanna dance? If you have any little ballerinas, yogis or hula hoopers in your household, bring them along to one of our classes this month and they can try it out for FREE. Simply present the coupon at the bottom of the email at the cash register and you'll get a free class that day. Check out our class schedule below and come dance, stretch or wiggle. |
 Craft of the Month
with Angela and Max!
A chance to try one of our seasonal crafts at home, alone! This month, I've chosen our Spooky Skull Stamps as it's an easy one to begin with and produces dramatic results. Have fun!
Spooky Skull Stamps Materials needed: Potatoes Drawing paper Marker Paring Knife Melon Baller Acrylic, tempera, and/or fabric paints Materials to stamp (canvas bags, pillow cases, t-shirts, card making paper) 1. Cut potato in half.
2. Sketch out your skull design. You will use this design as a guide or stencil for cutting your potato. This design may be as simple or intricate as you would like it to be. 3. Carve out your potato. Use the knife for areas such as the nostrils and teeth and the melon baller for the round areas like the eyes and cheeks. 3. Coat your stamp with your paint of choice and stamp away! You can use your stamp to decorate t-shirts, treat bags, cards, etc.
