New Clothes!
Yay, new clothes!

Get a new Fall wardrobe for free! Our Kids' Clothing Swap and Iron-on Extravaganza takes place Saturday September 11 from 11am - 1pm. Bring your hand me-downs - gently used please, the kind that you would want to go home with - and find new clothes that fit! We will set up tables by size upstairs and you can lay out your clothes to trade. Even better - we'll have free iron-on transfers for everyone, so bring an old tee or pick one up at the clothes swap, and transform it into a groovy new one! Unswapped clothes will be taken to the freebox/CAV/birthing center.

Want even more adornment? How about some new buttons? Our Button Making with Lindsy class continues every Wednesday afternoon through end September from 3.30 - 5pm. We'll have our Button Bar set up in the store and for 50c for one or $2 for five, you get to design your own or color in one of our templates. Submit any of your designs to our Button of the Month competition for the chance to win a Fishcake button collection and have your design made by us and sold in the store - with full artistic credit!

Fall in Taos is a spectacular time of year. For readers who don't live here, and have never had the opportunity to see Taos in technicolor, we'll be asking our local Facebook friends to post photos of the dramatic changes that take place here over the next month, so check it out - it's stunningly beautiful. If you are spending any time here, there's a host of activities going on for families aside from the opportunities to enjoy the scenery on hikes, rides or treks, including fish fests and worm eating at Eagle Nest, Oktoberfest celebrations at Taos and Red River, Fall Arts and Crafts Fairs, cultural celebrations, bike races. and more. Our website contains full details of all these events; highlighted below are some of our favorites.

Sept 9. Burning of Zozobra, Fort Marcy Park, Santa Fe. Ok, so it's not in Taos, but it's an amazing experience. Zozobra centers around the ritual burning in effigy of Old Man Gloom, or Zozobra, to dispel the hardships and travails of the past year. Gates open at 3pm, burning at dusk. Not for the faint-hearted!

Sept 11. The 11th Annual Town of Taos Touch-A-Truck, at the Youth & Family Center, 407 Paseo del Canon. Come climb into your favorite big rig, police car, fire truck or construction truck and explore free of charge. First 450 children will receive a free goody bag. Activities/refreshments/ music/DWI Simulator Course, Finger Printing and more. 1pm - 4 pm.

Sept 18. Oktoberfest Fall Celebration at the Taos Ski Valley. A small town celebration complete with 13-piece Oompah Band, German food, beer, German dancers, Costume, Alphorn and Yodeling Contests! Sidewalk Sale at Village shops. Fun for the entire family! Lodging specials.12 to 6pm. www.skitaos.org.

Sept 24.Taos Milagro Rotary Club Chile Challenge, Battle of the Breweries, Golf Tournament, and Silent Auction, the club's major fundraiser, will be held at the Taos Country Club. Provides funds for scholarships awarded to qualified, local, graduating high school seniors and others continuing their education.  This is an opportunity for Taoseños to invest in the future of our community by providing educational opportunities for our young people.  Contact: John Crouch, 575 758 9470  or Marci Beatty marciabeatty@hotmail.com

Sept 25-26. The 23rd annual Taos Trade Fair at La Hacienda de los Martinez, Continuous performances all day. Traditional craft demonstrations/sales. Hispanic foods. Children's craft projects on the half hour; story tellers at the top of the hour.  Admission - $10 for adults; $5 for children under 16; $30 for a family (2 adults and their children).  www.taosmuseums.org/hac_martinez.php, 575-758-1000. 12 noon to 5 pm.

Sept 29 - 30. Taos Pueblo San Geronimo Day. Experience this centuries-old trading event and shop for authentic American Indian arts and crafts. Ceremonial pole climbing. No cameras. www.taospueblo.com.

Oct 2-3. Taos Wool Festival at Kit Carson Park - a kids' and Twirl favorite.. A look at traditional and contemporary fiber artistry, an opportunity to get up close and personal with sheep, goats, rabbits, alpacas and llamas, and an invitation for kids to try their hand at a fiber project.
We're so happy to have you as part of the twirl family and always welcome any suggestions you might have for improvements either to the store, the playspace or this newsletter.

Warm regards,
