Dear Twirl Friend,

As Thanksgiving approaches, all of us here at Twirl are reminded of how lucky we are to be involved in a place like Twirl. Our original mission was to provide an inspirational place where children could come together and do what children do best - play, laugh, imagine, create, dance, sing, and be kids. To witness this first-hand on a daily basis is a privilege that we do not take for granted. Thank you all for your continued support in making Twirl such a vibrant part of the Taos community. We wish you and your families a very happy Thanksgiving.
Ready to be enchanted?

We're very excited to be putting together the finishing touches to our seasonal spectacle of magic and light. Please join us on Friday November 27th for the grand opening of "A Winter Fairytale".

We have a wondrous line-up of events including performances and music, crafts, tree decorating and lighting, gate prizes, hot cocoa, as well as some rather fantastical guests. Children will be able to visit with Santa, and receive a little Twirl magic to take home with them. And of course, this is when we unveil the courtyard in all its winter finery. Think Narnia's Age of Winter, only Christmas will definitely not be banished.

Speaking of Christmas, any last suggestions or requests for must-have items, please talk to our chief elf, Molly, as she's the one with the hotline to you-know-who.

Be sure to keep an eye out for news on other events happening at Twirl over the holidays, including the chance to win a free overnight stay with private pool at Ojo Caliente, and other delicious goodies in our exclusive holiday prize draw. More on that in our next newsletter.
Roaming Gnomes

GnomieCan you help us? We keep losing one of our cherished gnomes. He really is a mischevious sort. So much so, that  we're enlisting the help of other little gnomes like this one to look for him. Every Saturday and Sunday between Thanksgiving and Christmas Day, your little people are invited to find the errant pink gnome hiding in our courtyard. The first child to find it on each day will receive a $15 gift certificate and a little mini-me gnome to take home and treasure. Just turn up any time after opening and start looking. Happy hunting!

Little Boy In Vest

The Taos community is full of people with hidden talents, and great knitters are no exception. It seems no matter how busy people are, there's always time to pull out the needles and work on that special piece, with some amazingly creative results ...  which is why this site resonated with us immediately.

Knit a Square is a charitable organization that provides Aids orphans in Africa with knitted items to keep them warm at night. Knitters from all over the world send in 12" squares that can be made into blankets and other items for a child in need. Find out more at: www.knit-a-square.com

We would happily coordinate  the sending of squares if we get enough interest and can put a sign-up sheet in store. Please spread the word amongst your knitting friends and circles and let's send a little bit of Taos to someone that needs it.

As a community of parents, we're all too familiar with the concept of artful persuasion i.e. getting our kids to do things they'd rather not.

That's why this video, featuring stairs in a subway station that were turned into a giant interactive piano, made us smile. Turns out, just by injecting this little bit of levity into climbing stairs, people actively chose to use them versus the escalator alongside. Proving a theory we wholeheartedly support - that something as simple as fun can change a person's behavior for the better.
Volkswagen were behind this experiment, and while it was ostensibly a clever marketing ploy, the underlying premise is one that everyone, from town planners to business to parents, could learn from.

The public have been invited to submit their own ideas at www.thefuntheory.com, with a cash prize for the best one. Other entries include making a bottle bank into an arcade game to encourage recycling, and a paper shredder into a giant used paper snow globe!! Marvellous. The deadline is December 15 so get your thinking caps on, and have some FUN!
