Flint Farmers' Market Proudly Announces
Cutting Edge Food Assistance Program
At a press conference held Tuesday, October 4, 2011 at 11 am. the Flint Farmers' Market announced the successful implementation of the Fair Food Network's Double Up Food Bucks Program at the Flint Farmers' Market. The statewide program provides additional dollars to bridge card holders for fresh Michigan fruits and vegetables purchased at farmers' markets. The Flint Farmers' Market is a pilot site for the state and the nation thanks to a cutting edge wireless technology system that is being used to administer the program. The press conference included comments from Dr. Oran Hesterman, president and CEO of the Fair Food Network, Paul Knific, owner of Epic Technology Systems, Flint's Mayor Dayne Walling, Uptown Reinvestment Corporation President Tim Herman and local farmer and market vendor, Rod Fowler. So far nearly 2,000 Double Up Food Bucks rewards cards have been given out to local bridge card holders.
If you or someone you know has a bridge card, please encourage them to sign up for the program at the market Tuesdays and Thursdays 10 am to 4 pm under the deck of Steady Eddy's. To register: (1) bring a valid Michigan drivers license or state ID and (2) Michigan Bridge Card. The program will end briefly on November 30, 2011 but will launch again in the spring and go on through 2013.
