Center's Executive Recruitment Practice Active in Several Communities
New Bedford, Longmeadow, Burlington, Belmont, Framingham, Hanover
| The Commonwealth's cities and towns continue to avail themselves of the Center's highly regarded executive recruitment services. Several municipalities are currently being guided through their search processes by the Center's experienced staff, led by Senior Associate Richard Kobayashi.
The City of New Bedford recently retained the Center to conduct the search for a chief financial officer, a position which had remained unfilled for several years. The state's Department of Revenue had recommended reinstating the position as well as increasing its salary and newly-elected Mayor Jon Mitchell made implementing those two recommendations priorities in his inaugural address in January. The City Council approved the position and the increased pay last month. A comprehensive profile of the position and application requirements will be posted on the Collins Center website shortly, when active recruitment begins. New Bedford, the world's most famous whaling era seaport and the number one fishing port in America, has a population of approximately 100,000.
The Select Board of the town of Longmeadow has also hired the Center to conduct its search for a new Town manager and appointed an eight member Search Committee to work with the Center. The Select Board hopes to hire a new manager by mid-June. Longmeadow is a residential suburb of Springfield, with a population of approximately 14,000.
The Center's recruitment work in Burlington culminated this week with the unanimous selection by the Town's Board of Selectmen of John D. Petrin, Ashland Town Manager, as the Town's new administrator. The Center vetted 22 candidates for the position and recommended 12 for consideration by the Town's Search Committee, which in turn, sent the names of three finalists to the Board of Selectmen. Burlington's current town administrator, Robert Mercier, will retire in June, after serving twelve years in that position.
The Center is also recruiting the new town administrator for Belmont. The application deadline for the position was March 16, 2012. Belmont's Screening Committee expects to interview approximately ten candidates in mid-April. Recommendations are expected to be forwarded to the Town's screening committee by mid-April. An appointment is anticipated by the end of May. Belmont is a primarily residential town located eight miles west of Boston, with a population of 26,500.
Framingham's Town Manager Search Committee, aided by the Center, recommended four candidates for consideration by the Board of Selectmen last week. Framingham, with a population of almost 70,000 people, is the largest town in New England and is seeking its third town manager since the position was created in the 1990s.
Finally, the Town of Hanover recently appointed Troy Clarkson as its new manager, after a successful search process led by the Center, a process that attracted 50 applicants. Clarkson, the current town manager of Bridgewater, was approved unanimously by the Hanover Board of Selectmen.
