Greetings!

We are in the home stretch for the April 25th Great Ladue Creeks Cleanup, and have been "flooded" with more than 600 eager volunteers!

A post cleanup event for volunteers is planned for 3:00 to 4:30 PM at the back of the LaBarge property on Clayton Road, and we will have food, refreshments, and a bluegrass band.    Additionally, numerous excellent prizes (gift certificates) will be awarded to winners of our "scavenger hunt" for trash "collectibles".

Creeks Clean UpWe will have a mounted contingent from the bridle trail users, dozens of scouts, students from the public and private schools, and one real estate office crew as part of the task force.  The Rock Hill Quarry has already started cleaning their own creeks, and has reported finding the first arrow head of the event!

The vast majority of volunteers will be working in or near their own neighborhoods, but extra teams have been assigned to Two Mile and Deer Creeks where the need is greatest.

Prior to the event we will be distributing Stream Team T-shirts, gloves, and trash bags from Missouri Department of Conservation.  Additional event sponsors include The City of Ladue, Missouri Botanical Garden, The Ladue Garden Club, Metropolitan St. Louis Sewer District and local area businesses.
WE HAVE NO BACKUP PLAN in the event of inclement weather or flooding, but Creek Captains will be asked to do what they can when they can.

Thank you for helping make our creeks beautiful.

Student Rain Garden Design Nationally RecognizedTeam Leaf
Team Leaf of Ladue High School has recently secured a first place prize of at least $30,000 in the national Lexus Eco Challenge for their school rain garden design.

Word of Team LEAF's rain garden project reached large groups of people via their website, brochures, presentations, mass emails, a Facebook page, and specific Google ads to target national and global audiences/groups that have environmental concerns.

The high school students received support and assistance from the Show Me Raingardens project and from Greenscape Gardens and Gifts.

President Obama Signs Historic Wild and Scenic River Bill Into Law

creek clean upAmerican Rivers applauds permanent protection for 86 rivers, totaling 1,100 miles, in seven states

On March 30, 2009, American Rivers applauded President Barack Obama for signing into the law the second largest Wild and Scenic Rivers package in history. The Omnibus Public Land Management Act of 2009 designates 86 new Wild and Scenic Rivers, totaling over 1,100 miles in Oregon, Idaho, Arizona, Wyoming, Utah, California, and Massachusetts. The legislation includes important protections for 350,000 acres of land along the rivers and also contains new Wilderness designations for over two million acres of public land. This law expands the National Wild and Scenic Rivers System by more than 50 percent, bringing the total number of Wild and Scenic Rivers to 252.

"American Rivers' founding purpose was to protect the last best rivers in America under the National Wild and Scenic Rivers Act, the only law like it in the world." says Rick Holton, American Rivers Board Member and Ladue resident.  "Three years ago, as we looked forward to the 40th anniversary of the Act, we set ourselves an ambitious goal - to designate 40 new rivers to the Wild and Scenic System in honor of the 40th anniversary.  I am thrilled that we not only met that goal, but exceeded our highest expectations by more than doubling that number and adding 86 rivers to the system."
