1 It is good to praise the lord and make music to your name, O Most High,2 proclaiming your love in the morning and your faithfulness at night,
During the Thanksgiving holiday, we focus on our blessings and express our gratitude to God for them. But thanks should be on our lips every day. We can never say thank you enough to parents, friends, leaders, and especially to God. When thanksgiving becomes an integral part of your life, you will find that your attitude toward life will change. You will become more positive, gracious, loving, and humble. John 2:1-12
Jesus Changes Water Into Wine
1 On the third day a wedding took place at Cana in Galilee. Jesus' mother was there,2 and Jesus and his disciples had also been invited to the wedding.3 When the winse was gone, Jesus' mother said to him, "They have no more wine."
4 "Woman, why do you involve me?" Jesus replied. "My hour has not yet come."
5 His mother said to the servants, "Do whatever he tells you." (I think this is funny. Mary knows that Jesus is the son of God, that He IS God, but she is still His mother and has raised Him from a baby. She did not want her friends to be dishonored by running out of wine at the wedding. She doesn't take no for an answer. I just imagine the look she gave Him when he said "My hour has not yet come." She doesn't even respond, she just tells the servant to do what Jesus says. Like, " I don't care if you created the universe, I'm your mother, do what I say.")
6 Nearby stood six stone water jars, the kind used by the Jews for ceremonial washing, each holding from twenty to thirty gallons.
7 Jesus said to the servants, "Fill the jars with water"; so they filled them to the brim.
8 Then he told them, "Now draw some out and take it to the master of the banquet." They did so,9 and the master of the banquet tasted the water that had been turned into wine. He did not realize where it had come from, though the servants who had drawn the water knew. Then he called the bridegroom aside10 and said, "Everyone brings out the choice wine first and then the cheaper wine after the guests have had too much to drink; but you have saved the best till now."
11 What Jesus did here in Cana of Galilee was the first of the signs through which he revealed his glory; and his disciples believed in him.
12 After this he went down to Capernaum with his mother and brothers and his disciples. There they stayed for a few days.
What a strange "first miracle." Does Jesus condone drunkeness, of course not. He blessed His mother, and he saved her dear friends from a serious dishonor in that culture. Notice that He doesn't make a big production of it. He just quietly does something that no human could possibly do. If you were making up a story to promote your new religion, would you put this as Jesus' first miracle? This story would only get into your book if it was really what happened.
