5 Why, my soul, are you downcast?
Why so disturbed within me?
Put your hope in God,
for I will yet praise him,
my Savior and my God.6 My soul is downcast within me;

the heights of Hermon-from Mount Mizar.Depression is one of the most common emotional ailments. One antidote for depression is to meditate on the record of God's goodness to his people. This will take your mind off the present situation and give hope that it will improve. It will focus your thoughts on God's ability to help you rather than on your inability to help yourself. When you feel depressed, take advantage of this psalm's antidepressant. Read the Bible's accounts of God's goodness, and meditate on them. I would add that as an MD I see depression that is very physical. Antidepressants can be a gift from God when used properly. God is the great physician and ultimate healer. Luke 23:32-34
32 Two other men, both criminals, were also led out with him to be executed.33 When they came to the place called the Skull, they crucified him there, along with the criminals-one on his right, the other on his left.34 Jesus said, "Father, forgive them, for they do not know what they are doing."t And they divided up his clothes by casting lots.
I am always blessed by verse 34. They were mocking and spitting and screaming at God and He asked to forgive them. If we have only a portion of that Grace we will stand out among people.
