Psalm 25:4

4  Show me the right path, O Lord; point out the road for me to follow.

David expressed his desire for guidance. How do we receive God's guidance? The first step is to want to be guided and to realize that God's primary guidance system is in his Word, the Bible. By reading it and constantly learning from it, we will gain the wisdom to perceive God's direction for our lives. We may be tempted to demand answers from God, but David asked for direction. When we are willing to seek God, learn from his Word, and obey his commands, then will we receive his specific guidance.

Luke 22:39-46

39 Jesus went out as usual to the Mount of Olives, and his disciples followed him.40 On reaching the place, he said to them, "Pray that you will not fall into temptation."41 He withdrew about a stone's throw beyond them, knelt down and prayed,42 "Father, if you are willing, take this cup from me; yet not my will, but yours be done."43 An angel from heaven appeared to him and strengthened him.44 And being in anguish, he prayed more earnestly, and his sweat was like drops of blood falling to the ground.t

45 When he rose from prayer and went back to the disciples, he found them asleep, exhausted from sorrow.46 "Why are you sleeping?" he asked them. "Get up and pray so that you will not fall into temptation."

This is my favorite scene in "The Passion of the Christ".  Jesus was both fully human and fully God, so He knew what was about to happen to Him and felt the anguish and fear.  His response was to pray as ours must be.  Why would God have fear?  While Jesus was fully God, He chose to limit His power and experience life as a human.  He knows what we go through - He's been there and done it more and better.
