He said, "Listen, all you people of Judah and Jerusalem! Listen, King Jehoshaphat! ( I don't care how biblical it is, please don't name your baby after this King! :0) This is what the Lord says: Do not be afraid! Don't be discouraged by this mighty army, for the battle is not yours, but God's. (Wow, that's hard to remember!)We may not fight an enemy army, but every day we battle temptation, pressure, and Satan, who wants us to rebel against God. Remember, as believers, we have God's Spirit in us. If we ask for God's help when we face struggles, God will fight for us. And God always triumphs. (BUT, it is hard to let Him. It is so easy to give in to temptation without even getting God involved! If not we'd be sinless. Keep trying to center your life on God. Prayer, scripture, worship music, fellowship and accountability to other Christians are the tools needed.)(Verse and commentary is copied from the Life Application Study Bible Reading Plan on YouVersion. Luke 18:9-14
9 To some who were confident of their own righteousness and looked down on everyone else, Jesus told this parable: 10 "Two men went up to the temple to pray, one a Pharisee and the other a tax collector. 11 The Pharisee stood by himself and prayed: 'God, I thank you that I am not like other people-robbers, evildoers, adulterers-or even like this tax collector. 12 I fast twice a week and give a tenth of all I get.'
13 "But the tax collector stood at a distance. He would not even look up to heaven, but beat his breast and said, 'God, have mercy on me, a sinner.'
14 "I tell you that this man, rather than the other, went home justified before God. For all those who exalt themselves will be humbled, and those who humble themselves will be exalted." There are so many layers of pride in us. Many with a very low opinion of themselves are still too proud to be aware of their value in God's eyes. We are the favorite creation of the God of the universe and He will live in us and work through us if we let Him. If we have our own agenda, He won't force Himself on us. Surrender and wait. Love and laugh. Be what you were made for - vessels of the Spirit of the Living God!
