Nurse Update!  Thank you Lord!  Laura is a Christian nurse that starts today in my office in Wayland.  I am still looking to hire a nurse to do pregnancy confirmation ultrasounds, 20 hours a week, in Bath, NY.  Anyone who is interested can reply to this e-mail with information.

From the Life Application Study Bible:
Matthew 5-7 is called the Sermon on the Mount because Jesus gave it on a hillside near Capernaum. This "sermon" probably covered several days of preaching. In it, Jesus proclaimed his attitude toward the law. Position, authority, and money are not important in his Kingdom-what matters is faithful obedience from the heart. The Sermon on the Mount challenged the proud and legalistic religious leaders of the day. It called them back to the messages of the Old Testament prophets, who, like Jesus, taught that heartfelt obedience is more important than legalistic observance.

Matthew 5:1-12 NIV

(1) Now when he saw the crowds, he went up on a mountainside and sat down. His disciples came to him,  (2)  and he began to teach them, saying:  (3)  "Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
(4)  Blessed are those who mourn, for they will be comforted. (5)  Blessed are the meek, for they will inherit the earth. (6)  Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they will be filled. (7)  Blessed are the merciful, for they will be shown mercy. (8)  Blessed are the pure in heart, for they will see God. (9)  Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called sons of God. (10)  Blessed are those who are persecuted because of righteousness, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. (11)  "Blessed are you when people insult you, persecute you and falsely say all kinds of evil against you because of me. (12)  Rejoice and be glad, because great is your reward in heaven, for in the same way they persecuted the prophets who were before you.

These "Blessed are those" statements can be confusing.  Why are you blessed when you are poor in spirit (not sure if that means means being downcast, or maybe being rich materially but knowing you are poor without God), or blessed if you mourn or are meek.  All these statements seem to fit people that don't have it made in this world.  They can easily see their need for God in their lives.  When things are going perfectly for us, we tend not to pay much attention to God unless we truly surrender ourselves to Him in a very direct way.  Lord, help us to be yours completely, regardless of our circumstances.
