Matthew 6:19-21 NIV
"Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy, and where thieves break in and steal. (20)  But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where moth and rust do not destroy, and where thieves do not break in and steal. (21)  For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.

Tim in outhouse

This is Tim coming out of the bathroom in Panabar.  Probably the most wonderful miracle of our trip was that Tim left the U.S. as a very nice guy who wanted to help people.  On Wednesday night, in Guatemala, he prayed to surrender his life to Jesus!  He came home as a brother in Christ.
Another miracle was the unbelievable support we received from so many.  I don't know the final tally but I know that over $5000 was given to support our medical mission.  Imagine how we felt when we were asked at Guatemalan customs if we had medicines in our bags.  We answered yes and were told that they would have to inspect all the suitcases with medicines.  We had about 20 suitcases with medical supplies and I showed them my itemized list and which suitcases (we had them numbered) had medicines in them.  We calmly proceeded to try and sort out which suitcases they needed to go through.  A young female customs agent asked me if I had permission from the minister of health to bring in medicines.  I told her that I had sent a list to the Guatemalan embassy but hadn't gotten a reply.  She said that we needed permission from the minister of health.  It was strange.  The whole medical mission was at risk in that moment, but I felt a strange peace and calm.  The young women was really very kind.  The agents talked among themselves.  She then told me that they would let us through this time but she would give me the information to get permission for the next time.  We went through with smiles and Spanish "God Bless You's" and went out to meet the "chicken bus."  How did we manage to get through that?
Here's multiple choice for you:
A.  I'm really good with Latin women (lifelong practice you know!)
B.  They didn't feel like going through all those bags
C.  God was with us and made our way clear.
D.  All of the above.

(The right answer is C of course.  If B was a factor it was God who made it so.  You all know that A was the first one you crossed off!)

Many more stories from the trip to come.
Fight the good fight!   I love you.   dr joe
