Dear Friends of Challenge Air, October 2011
October 12th marks my one-year anniversary as Executive Director/CEO for Challenge Air for Kids & Friends. Each day I am amazed by the never-ending stories of the young people Challenge Air has served over the past 17 years and the joy the "gift of flight" has given to so many children. I would like to express my sincere thanks to the Challenge Air Board of Trustees. These devoted leaders have stood by the organization through tough times and have provided the leadership and drive to keep Challenge Air moving forward. They are an extraordinary group of men and women.
I have boundless pride in our professional staff, to whom I am indebted and most grateful. We work on a shoestring budget and at times our resources are scarce. However, our staff carries on knowing the special role Challenge Air plays in children and youth with special needs who look forward to flying "their" plane every year.
My sincere thanks to the volunteer committees, pilots and sponsors in Fort Worth, Dallas, Ft. Lauderdale, McKinney, Aurora, Kansas City, and Denver for your tireless effort in pulling together six fantastic events for 2011. Having provided over 750 flights to children and young adults this year, the faces of these participants are imprinted on the hearts of our staff, volunteers, donors and sponsors.
Since October 2010, I have been driven by the children who face special needs on a day to day basis. The Challenge Air "Fly Days" are a gift of joy, laughter, hope and strength; but most of all; they are a gift of love given by the kindness of others.
I welcome you to join us today, as we continue with our mission of building self-esteem and confidence in children and youth with special needs through the gift of flight.
As we enter into the fall of 2011, the greatest obstacle to our mission is our financial footing. Please consider making a financial gift by clicking here or mailing at check at the address listed below.
Your gift will forever change the life of a child.
In appreciation,
April Culver
CEO/Executive Director

Grinning From Ear to Ear.....
| |

Saturday, September 10th was a spectacular day for approximately 110 special needs children in Kansas City, MO. Sixteen volunteer pilots took to the skies
and allowed each child to actually take control of the yoke. Parents have told us time and again that the Challenge Air program is unlike no other.....children leave the event motivated and inspired, with a greater sense of self worth, self-esteem and confidence..
Below is an excerpt from a participant's mom, Owen Phariss from Lawrence, KS who participated in the September 10th "Fly Day."
"Talk about one pumped up young man! I wish you could have seen his face on our drive home. He kept looking and touching the pin you gave him, then he'd look at his certificate, then look at the pen..... Grinning ear to ear. I think he called all of his friends.
What an absolute fun, fun day! Thank you for your generosity and making it so fun for Owen. He's ready to go again!"
Owen was crowned homecoming King last October 2010. Click here to read more.
Thanks again to all who helped brighten the lives of kids and families with special needs at the Kansas City, MO "Fly Day!" You do make a difference!
