    My Wings

    This poem was written by

Jepessen employee and volunteer pilot Thomas Letts after participating in the Denver event in May.

    Thank you Thomas!

    Today is the day,
    I'm going flying so high,

    Today is the day,
    way up in the sky.

     For the pilot that
    will take me,

    gives me a slight laugh
    & big smile,

    For he knows that this
    flight will cheer me up,

    even just for awhile.

    The planes are so pretty,
    all shiny and bright,

The pilot eases my fears, then prepares me for flight.

     The engine starts up,
    the radios chatter with life,

    Wow, are we really going
    to do this, I mean,
    fly a real flight?

    The pilot informs me we
    are cleared to takeoff,

    We head for the runway
    and soon we'll be aloft.

As we head down the runway, I think what a blast,

When the lines beneath us, start passing real fast.

    Then with a slight
    tug on the stick,
    we ease into the sky,

Exhilaration is the feeling, when the plane starts to fly.

I look up, I look down,
    just enjoying god's splendorous view,

    It's amazing to think,
I am one of the lucky few.

     Flying so high,
it's like touching heaven's front door,

    This is so spectacular,
    I am hoping for more.

But as fast as it started,
    the flight had to end,

    We turned back towards
    the airport and started
    to descend.

     I see the airport
    and runway in the
    distance ahead,

    Now sit back, enjoy,
    I got it from here,
    the pilot said.

We landed, then taxied, back to our original place,

I will never forget this day, that put a smile on my face.

    For just for a moment,
I was not bound by my ills,

    I flew; I really flew,
    oh what a fabulous thrill!

     Thank you so much,
    doesn't cover the
    feelings I feel,

You made my whole day; you made me
    King of the Hill.

Dear Friends of Challenge Air,                         November 2010

Recently, Challenge Air made a change that we want you to know about.

After working over twelve years with Challenge Air, Byron Laszlo resigned as Executive Director from the organization in July 2010. Byron's passion and dedication for the children Challenge Air serves was evident through his tenure at the organization. We thank Byron for his vision and for the time he has put into the organization and wish him well on his next journey.

Challenge Air has an exciting road ahead. As we saw with our founder Rick Amber, the success of the Challenge Air program has never been about one individual, but from the synergy that comes when many act together to realize its mission. There are many thousands of children that are waiting to participate in the Challenge Air program and with your continued help and support, we are certain to rise to a new level.

    In Appreciation,

    Joe Montag

    Challenge Air Board President

The Night of Superstars is an event unlike any other for children with special needs. Created out of the love for the number of kids who feel they could never experience a life of stardom due to incurable diseases, birth defects or accidents, this was their night to be a superstar and shine.

"The kids are the real superstars," says Greg Johnson, founder and chairman of Night of Superstars. "They inspire those around them and impact thousands of others who hear their stories of overcoming great adversity. Celebrating these youngsters and their many contributions is long overdue. We want them to realize what superstars they truly are."
