Message from Board Chair Bob Thompson II
In my first Message from the Board Chair article in the December/January 2010 issue, I shared 8 key words that would promote positive change in our approaches to business, personal goals, and the Council. Now that we have reached the 3rd quarter of 2010 and will be shortly participating in the Expo, one of the most important Council business events of the year, I wanted to revisit 4 of these key words, all of which will serve you well at the Expo: plan, persistence, patience, and perseverance. I urge all MBEs to PLAN for the Expo by following the pre-Expo tips below and looking through the Expo registrant list, which contains the company names of many of the attending corporations (research the ones that you have targeted as potential opportunities; hint: cannot be the whole list, talk to everyone, but only target 3-5 companies). Be PERSISTENT (without being a pest) when following-up with Target companies and other potential opportunities. Be PATIENT at the Expo and afterwards: as Scott says, "don't push over other MBEs on your way to a buyer," and understand that buyers are busy with many things when they get back to the office. Lastly, PERSEVERE: the suppliers who are awarded contracts must often develop the supplier/buyer relationship over time before it yields business. With these words of advice, I wish you the best of luck at the Expo and in your current and future business endeavors. |
Message from the MBE Input Committee (MBEIC)
The MBEIC has many purposes. One is to provide information for our certified MBEs through events, announcements as well as insightful advice. Committee members are often asked questions about how to get contracts and find resources for small MBEs. Some ask if going to matchmaking events or even the national NMSDC Expo is worth the time and expense...< Read More> |

What is the perceived role that going Green should play in local and/or national business? Green is the new gold. "Green" is now a part of almost every corporate policy making process and will continue to play a major role in the future of business evolution within all of Corporate America.... <Read More>

Testimonial: Construction Inspection Specialists
"Professionally I find it very rewarding to have organizations such as NCMSDC become available to Native American businesses across the country.
