What Our Guests Have to Say:
The Inn is beautiful. The town is very upscale and well kept.  The beach is delightful.  Serendipity brought us here, and we are happy it did so.
                    L & M

Thank you for a fantastic weekend. We can't wait for the "Eagle Watch" so it's not over yet.  We appreciated the wine + cheese on Fri. night, the lovely roses + champagne for our anniversary waiting for us upon arrival.  We loved the Big breakfast, the cozy fireplace + bedroom, "Le Petit Caf tait fabuleux!" Even with the rain, we managed a nice walk on the beach + a fun day in Madison.  Great bookstore + movie theater - "a little yesteryear feeling."  We will enjoy our book on CT birds + got some "premium" blend for our bird feeder.  The man was very helpful + informative at the Audubon Shop.  Madison Chocolates was a great stop for a treat too. So, "Merci mille fois!" It was a memorable anniversary + fun time together.  You are the most attentive innkeeper we have met, and we loved the ginger cookies!

Serendipity Season on the Shoreline

One of the joys of Madison is that it is a vibrant, active, year-round community, and so I have named the season from November through April our Serendipity Season. It is this time of year that offers some of the most creative and fun activities, events and occurrences.  That special CT Shoreline, New England Home-Town atmosphere that you come to enjoy from May through October is here all year 'round.  One look at the January "Arts and Events" calendar listings in "The Source",  gives you an idea of all that this area has to offer for visitors and residents alike:  Art exhibits, Author Events and Lectures, Film screenings, Museum events and exhibits, concerts, nightlife and dancing, and more.  Here we offer a sampling of things to see and do in the coming weeks and months.  You'll want to come and stay.  We just know you will.

I can see the Ocean!
As I look out my office window I can see he sparkle of the Ocean - It happens around the middle of every November.  All the leaves finally come down off the trees and we can see the sparkle of the ocean from our windows at last!  Just about 10:30 every morning the sun is just right and its rays make the water shine and sparkle through the bare branches of the trees that surround the salt marsh, Fence Creek and the properties along the beach roads that are all between us and the shore.  This is one of our serendipities of the late autumn and winter seasons that brings us joy and makes us smile.

Driftwood, Sea Shells, ... the quiet lapping of the waves.  Winter walks on the beach are very special.  ... something you have to experience to understand ... when the water is often warmer than the air ... there is a quiet beauty ... and the colors of the sunrise and sunset are most spectacular!

Some other annual events that we hope to hear about soon include the Newcomers' "Taste of Madison" at the Arts Barn to benefit various local organizations; "Madison Cares" traditionally holds a movie night preceded by drinks and hors d'oeuvres; the Lions Club also holds a movie night with Cappuccino and Desserts ... and more. Guilford's 3rd Annual Adult Spelling BEE
The evening of February 6, 2009, "promises to be full of excitement and surprises, as teams comprised of 3 adults battle it out to take home the coveted Best of the Hive trophy." Prizes are also awarded for best costume, name and spirit of the team. They anticipate approximately 40 teams that will be divided into swarms (or rounds) to compete. VFW suppers
Around the corner from the Tidewater Inn, just up Lover's Lane (yes, that's really the name of the street) is the local VFW post.  Fall and Winter months mean Madison VFW suppers on the third Friday of every month.  The menu is different every month and features what I would describe as "comfort foods" such as homemade meatloaf ...mmmm.  Plan a weekend visit so that you can enjoy this special part of Home Town Madison.  (203) 245-9938 - 85 Lover's Lane, Madison CT.

15th Annual Holiday Train Show
Train Enthusiast's, this is a "Don't Miss" experience.  At the Connecticut River Museum, in Essex CT, Tuesdays - Sundays, 10:00am to 5:00pm, through February 15th, enjoy "this crowd-pleasing, interactive, model train experience that's promised to be bigger and better than ever, with new settings, new structures and new models ... magically displayed."  ... Combine this with an Eagle Watch Escape and Cruise for an unforgettable Winter weekend ...
The Splendor of the Bald Eagles

The lower Connecticut River where the River meets the Sound, is home to New England's largest concentration of wintering Bald Eagles.  These majestic birds migrate from the North in the deepest Winter months to find open water where fish and other food will be abundant.  With leaves off the trees, it is prime viewing time, and there are two ways to see the Eagles that come to call Connecticut home for a few months each year - by guided land tours and by guided river cruises.  We offer each in a separate weekend Escape and will gladly make your tour arrangements for you when you book your room.

Jerry from Madison's Audubon Shop offers guided land tours, Saturday mornings, January 31 to March 7, 2009 - $20 per person, includes lunch at Oliver's Tavern, Essex. Advance reservations are required.
... Details ...

From the Connecticut River Museum you may take the Eagle Quest cruise on the CT River, with Naturalists on board, Saturdays and Sundays at 1:00pm, February 7 to March 15, 2009 - $45 per person includes special Eagles exhibits inside the CT River Museum, $40 per person for just the cruise. Binoculars and hot beverages are included.  Advance reservations are required.  They've been taking reservations since early in December 2008, so be sure to make your plans as soon as possible to not miss out.

Winter Getaways for Those of Us Who Don't Ski
So, it's winter, and you've got a bit of cabin fever. You are yearning to get away, needing to escape, relax and restore. ... But, you're not a snow skier, so the mountains don't beckon, and you're not a water skier, so the warmer waters of the South are not calling your name. What you long for is warmth, comfort and relaxation. ... We've got several great suggestions for you for the perfect winter escape right here on the Connecticut Shoreline.

Hug a Mug and warm up with our "
Coffee Lover's" or "Tea Lover's" Escapes.  Get to know the shoreline in this Serendipity Season and see why we're "Mad About Madison."  Seek and find Antiques and Treasures without jostling the crowds. These are just a few of our ideas for winter warmers.
Friends and Family
Thank You ... When just the words are not enough ...

In the three and a half years since I purchased the Tidewater Inn I have had the joy and pleasure of meeting all of our wonderful guests.  Many of you have returned again and again, for both business and for pleasure, and by now you are "Family" or, at the very least "Friends."  I've come to know you and your favorite rooms, your likes and dislikes, your favorite muffin or breakfast entre.  You've come to trust us with your rest and relaxation and you've referred us to others as well, and so our family of guests has grown and continues to grow day by day. Beginning with January 1, 2009 we'd like to say "thank you" with more than just words.

We appreciate your loyalty. For our returning guests, for each ten nights that you stay with us (either in separate accumulated visits or at once), going forward from January 1, 2009, we'll say "Thank You" with a Tidewater Inn Gift Certificate for the value of a one night stay (average of the 10 nights that you have stayed with us) ... so your 11th night could be free! This thank you is for both business and pleasure travelers.  The value of your gift certificate will be based on the value of the 10 nights that you have stayed with us to earn the gift certificate.

We value your referrals.  You are our best source of advertising.  To thank you, for each new guest that you refer to us we will credit your loyalty account with "referral points" equivalent to 10% of their first completed booking with us.  At the end of the year we'll issue a Tidewater Inn gift certificate to you for the accumulated value of all of your referrals points.  Be sure that your friends mention your referral when they make their reservation. So, don't keep us a secret.  Spread the word! ... and THANK YOU!
The Shoreline Dining Scene

Lobster! Lobster! Lobster! It sure is a great time to enjoy lobster around here.  Prices per pound are the lowest I've seen in a long time.  Have it steamed for you at Big Y or Stop & Shop or at Westbrook Lobster and you can enjoy it at home. Better still, go out and enjoy a great lobster roll at Lenny & Joe's Fish Tale in Westbrook, Lobster and Chicken Pot Pie at the Stone House in Guilford, or whole lobster dinners at Westbrook Lobster, Lenny's at Indian Neck in Branford, or at Guilford Mooring ... just to name a few ...

If it's dining and dancing you're looking for, Aspen, a trendy fine dining restaurant, opened a few months ago at the recently expanded Saybrook Country Barn complex.  I've picked up their menus for our menu book and had an opportunity to chat with the manager, but have yet to dine there.  I'll have to put them on my calendar soon.  You can explore their web site to see menus and to check their entertainment schedule, as they do offer live music and dancing every now and then.
I and the staff really enjoy bringing you all the latest at the Tidewater Inn and in and about Madison.   We hope we get to see you again at our front door very soon.  As always, we hope for you the very best of blessings and serendipities and sincerely thank you for your referrals, support and patronage.

We are waiting to welcome you!
