Greetings!
 April Pre-Race

This month's course configuration is the Grande Course, run -clockwise.  Hopefully you are back in race shape and the kart is fast.  See you at the track.  Don't forget Friday practice is discounted to Tri-C Ep1K members.

So How Was Your Day?

Our new segment - So how was your day....?  Send me a report on how your race day went and I'll include it in our feature.  Here is our first installment.....

So how was your day.....?

Anxious to get off to a good start after the long layoff, I took a half day  Friday to practice and tune the kart.  The day went well and I felt I was close on old tires.  I had new front hubs and rear hubs, mags and tires for race day.  I mounted these before I left the track Friday night.

Practice 1 showed me to be off the pace, the handling with the new hubs and mags was off.  I made adjustments for practice 2 .  After practice 2 on the cool down lap, exiting the horseshoe turn I had a sever vibration then lost my left rear wheel followed by a spin and my right hub lugs shearing as well.  I slid down the track backwards on my new sprocket and chain.  It's amazing how far you can slide with no brakes!

Ok now I trashed my hubs, new mag wheels sprocket and chain.  I switched to a set of mismatched wheels and long hubs (hey it's all I had).  Thanks to all those who pitched in to help!

Qualifying came and went with my kart badly over steering through the horseshoe.  I qualified 9th out of 15 (way off my Friday practice times).

Heat 1 saw the typical 1st turn crash and I got held up in the track blockage.  Had a nice race with Greg Perhacs before he motored away.  On the last lap my throttle petal bolt snapped in half and I had just enough throttle to limp to the finish.  OK now you can see how my day was shaping up.  I finished 13th. But wait there is more drama I was penalized one position for driving outside the punch-off cone at the start.

Heat two no real drama just a poor handling kart.  I moved up to 9th at the start and gradually worked myself back to 11th at the finish.

The Main race again saw a crash in turn 1, I was able to get through and emerge in 7th with a large lead over 8th place.  I ran several laps in holding the gap between myself and Mike Pringle, when I lost power coming out of the Contino Carousel.  Four drivers passed me before I could get the carb sorted out.  From there it was just slog around waiting for the finish - 12th place.

Lesson learned - always, no sometimes, no never... yeah that's it.. never try new stuff on race day even though you think it will work, it won't.  Always replace bolts after the season ends and we won't mention the punch-off cone incident!

New for April's Race

Since our race falls during the Easter weekend, Tri-C and EP1K have decided to add some excitement to the races.  There will be several different colored Easter eggs hidden around the course.  These will be placed in strategic locations i.e. at the apex of key turns, atop barriers on the outside of turns, around the start finish line etc. The object is to pick these up during qualifying and the races.  These eggs will be redeemed in the tech area.

A Red Egg will allow the presenter to nullify any technical D.Q. (a get out of jail free card if you like).

A Black Egg will allow a driver to send any competitor to the back of the field for the main race.

A  Green Egg will move the driver up to pole position for the main race.

Silver Egg will allow the racer free entrys for the next 5 years

A  Gold Egg will give the driver double points in the pre-mains and main race.

As always we are looking to improve the competition during the races.  We believe looking for eggs and picking these up at full speed will add to the excitement of the day.  It is recommended you hot glue egg cartons over your airbox to hold your eggs.

Tri-C Hosts  IFK Race
April 9-11

Tri-C Karters is proud to host the I.K.F Region 7 Round 4 race at the

Grange Motor Circuit on April 9th-11th, 2010.  More information and entry form can be found at www.tri-ckarters.com

How can you earn first place points?

Simple by working a race or Tri-C event you are awarded first place points.  There is a great opportunity to work at our upcoming IKF race April 9-11.  We need workers Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

Work one day and receive your points.  These points come in handy as the season draws to a close, giving you the edge over someone who hasn't worked a race.

Planning on missing a race this season?  Work for points is a great way to stay up in the points battle.  Contact Josh Cushman or Robert Brooks

Request for Sponsors.

Tri-C Karters has been a fixture in the sport of kart racing since the 1960's in Southern California. As a not for profit organization we depend on Sponsors to help make the sport a rewarding experience for our participants and keep the costs of this entry level motor sport to a minimum.

You can help - As a company or individual sponsor we think that you will find that there are many benefits to helping our organization.

The money raised from our "Class" sponsors primarily provides trophies and award (gift) vouchers for our drivers.( 5 to 70 year olds)  Tri-C Karters fields 12 classes of karts, currently we still have sponsorship opportunities available .

A class sponsor is represented on each trophy or gift card given at each event during the season. A sponsor link is provided on our website and our track announcer broadcasts the sponsor's name during that class's race. If a company logo is provided it is proudly displayed on our club banner and listed in our monthly newsletter.  A free pass is offered for each track event and in addition a sponsor is invited to our year end banquet as our guest and may, if they so desire, award the year end trophies in their class.

All that we request is a minimum donation of $500.00.

With our 10 scheduled club races and Special Tri-C hosted events you can be assured that your contribution will be well publicized. You may also find that your company donation is tax deductable.

A class sponsorship is also a good way of remembering a friend or family member who may have shared a passion for motorsports.

If you wish to contact me with any questions about our organization or this program please feel free to call me at 714 393-3808 or email at nigel@linkline.com.

Sincerely,

Nigel Falls-Hand for the Tri-C board
