Greetings!
May Race Report

Tri-C offers more racing at its May race!

The day was warm and the racing was hot as Tri-C added more race laps to their program.  After 2 practice sessions and a green-white checkered qualifying, competitors lined up for 3 heats of racing.

The largest class of the day was the HPV 4 Plus with 20 drivers battling for the win.  In qualifying, Martin Harnois edged out veteran Brian Phillipsen for the pole.  In Heat 1 Brian barely finished ahead of Martin followed by Mike Bowers, Cory Swogger, and Vince Cofeen.  In heat 2 it was Bowers, Phillipsen, Harnois, Swogger, and Dan Gefis making up the top five.  Dan Gefis looked strong early in the day but suffered a mechanical problem on the grid that caused him to sit out the main event.  Turn 1 action in the main event retired lead drivers Harnois and Bowers.  Brian Phillipsen took the win followed by Cory Swogger, Greg Pringle, Steve Laguna, and Chris Sarris.

The HPV 2 and HPV 4 classes ran combined, giving Parker Stanway a taste of what it's like to run with the big guys, and gals.  The HPV 4 class was dominated by IKF Grandnational champion Sheila Bukamier-Nash.  She was the pole-sitter in the HPV 4 class and won all 3 heats of racing.  Kyle Wright finished second followed by Kanji Takagi.  Parker Stanway finished first in his class and second overall after testing his passing skills on some of the more experienced HPV 4 drivers.

The HPV 1 class had some great racing with a different winner in each heat.  Nick Ramirez was the polesitter for the first heat race, but Skylar Estrada beat him out for the win, followed by Henry Falls-Hand and Ian Wesolowski.  The second heat race was a battle with Henry Falls-Hand taking top honors followed by Nick Ramirez and Ian Wesolowski.  A mechanical problem on the grid kept Ian Wesolowski from being a contender in the main event.  Nick Ramirez earned the win with Skylar Estrada, Henry Falls-Hand, Kyle Tetzlaff, and Garrett Mercier rounding out the top five.  Troy Wesolowski made a strong showing in the Novice Cadet class finishing first in his class and fifth overall in the combined class.

Gabriella Robles dominated in the World Formula Sr. Class, qualifying on pole and winning all three heats of racing.  Kari Hillwig was running a strong third in the events but broke in the main event.  Joe and Bob Grable finished second and third in the main event.  Brad Hillwig finished first in the World Formula Jr. class, and first overall in the combined classes.

The TAG class was very competitive with some of the best racing of the day.  Garrett Rader was the polesitter and winner of the first heat, followed by John Molinare, Tanner Cemper, and Maya Gutierrez.  In the second heat, Garrett broke, and Tanner was DQ'd.  John Molinare won the heat followed by Maya and Trevor Sumner.  Garrett came back strong to win the main event with Maya close behind.  John Molinare finished third after leading for the first half of the race.  Tanner Cemper and Trevor Sumner made up the top five.  Robert Brooks won the TAG Masters class over Mike Burnett.

Luis Ortiz IV made a clean sweep of all the heats in the Kid Kart class followed by Jacob Mercier and Brody Thralls.

June 20th Race Schedule

Grange'

Race course will be run forward (clockwise)
For this weekends round 6 race at the Grange Motor Circuit, Tri-C received such positive responses to our two hears and a main races that we will carry this format forward to the June race.

Practice - 2 sessions
Qualifying (green, white, checker)
First 8 lap heat race
Second 8 lap heat race
Main Race 16 laps

Your qualifying time will set the grid for the first heat race, your finish in the first heat will set your grid for the second heat race.
For the main we will set the grid using your heat race finishes combined. The point system used for the heat races will be as follows

1st you will score        0
2nd you will score       2
3rd you will score       3
4th you will score       4
5th you will score       5 and so on

You will score the number of points for your finishing position, with the exception of winning the heat, If you win you will score a 0.

Your total points for both heats will set the grid for the main, lowest on pole.  In the event of a tie in heat race points the tie breakers will be:

1st Tie Breaker - Qualifying time (best qualifying time wins the tie) if there is still a tie
2nd Tie Breaker - Best heat race finish (either heat, best finish wins the tie) if there is still a tie
3rd Tie Breaker - the best finish in the 2nd heat

This format will reward consistent drivers, it will make every session important from qualifying through the heats with the payoff in the main.

I hope everyone has fun
