From the Desk of the President
Imagine being a fireman who serves a 4 day
shift, sacrifices sleep, and risks injury and life itself, only to come home
and find that your own house had burned.
Now imagine being an auto mechanic serving in the National Guard. You signed up to serve your country, but you
only expected a weekend a month away from your wife and 3 children, not two
years of deployment in a three year period...

Operation Military Family - a new division of Families Northwest
With each military deployment, the strain on marriages becomes more challenging. Marriage failure in our military is truly the "untold casualty of war." Currently, there are 2.8 failed military marriages every hour - and this only accounts for our active duty troops. To bring the number home, this is more than 25,000 failed military marriages per year.
- Find out how Families Northwest is responding to this alarming problem.

Stories From The Battlefield
An injured soldier and his wife share their story of love that has weathered deployment, physical injury, emotional distance, issues of self-esteem and family dynamic. Life is not easy, but with these added stresses due to serving in the military their family has walked through many struggles. They share the story of their journey through the pain and pressure, which ultimately has brought them to a place of perseverance. Watch the VideoThis soldier shares his story of deployment and returning home to a different homecoming then he expected: a new marriage and a family system that has been running without him. Rejoining his family, rekindling the romance and learning to communicate all over again, was a shock that he did not expect. He speaks of one military team that of its members came home to broken relationships and ended in divorce. But he speaks of hope...that those who are successful and have walked in those steps before him could teach others who are struggling their wisdom and tools. Watch the Video |
Operation Military
Family - How We Got Our Start
Michael Schindler
It was the Fall of 2006 when my best friend, Brian,
announced that he was being mobilized to Afghanistan - this was a pretty big
shock. I'm not sure why - everyone who was serving in the Guard or Reserves was
getting the call and Brian knew it; so he volunteered before he got
"volunteered." But he assured us that he would return unscathed in
four to five months. The reality was that his family - Jody, his three boys,
and young daughter-- would be impacted by this decision
forever.
