Security at Hampton Lakes
Unfortunately, yesterday I was advised that there has been another break in at Hampton Lakes (this time on Bailey Circle). It would appear that the thieves preferred choice on entry is via the patio door at the rear of the house.
In previous newsletter & security articles I advised all owners to fit as much security to their house is possible and as you can afford, even consider using simple block of wood/timber which sits/ lays at the bottom of the door frame thus stopping the door being slid open when locked. It would appear that whilst this is a good deterrent it might not stop the actual patio door being lifted up in some way and taken of the runners.
I spoke with a local maintenance chap called Simon who works around Hampton Lakes and discovered that there is a Patio Door Lock (CAL double bolt Lock) that actually prevents the door being lifted and removed in this manner. Details on the lock can be found following this link
As far as I can tell you cannot buy this lock in a Lowes or Home Depot as it appears to be specialised system and only available either direct from suppliers on the Internet or at selected specialist locksmiths. Simon has so far this week fitted about 5 of these locks to HL Homes and is willing to offer his services to any HL resident that would like one fitted. The cost is approximately $ 55.
Simon can be reached either on 001 863 557 1058 or via email at maintenanceguy@bellsouth.net
In addition to sharing the above information I also wanted to inform all Homeowners that effective as at May 1st 2009 the Board of Director agreed to increase our Sheriffs' patrols to 5 days a week (from the usual 3 days per week) in an attempt to "step up" the general security to Hampton Lakes. Sheriffs' officers will now patrol HL 5 days per week for approximately 4 hours per day.
We all need to do as much as is possible to protect our homes during these tough times. I doubt we will ever achieve a zero crime rate but the more we do as a Board and as individual homeowners the better chance we stand of reducing incidents.
Lastly, It has to noted that whilst we do still suffer the odd break in as reported above, our community remains one of the lowest if not the lowest crime affected area in Polk and along US27.
Special thanks to Paul Jones for connecting us all with Simon and informing us all of this new locking system.
If anyone else has any security ideas or recommendations we can look into please feel free to contact any member of the board.
Assuring you of our best intentions at all times
Sincerely
