Greetings!

As you may be aware Cyclone Yasi, (the largest ever on record), crossed the coast at Mission Beach on Thursday night. In a straight line this is about 80kms south of The Canopy Treehouses.

There is a lot to be said for being north of a cyclone as the vast majority of damage and extreme conditions happen in the eye or to the south. There was really very little damage done to our forest and after we finish a bit of a clean-up we expect to reopen within a week! We are extremely relieved after a very intense experience and our thoughts are with those further south who were not so fortunate.

The forest after Cyclone Yasi.
Not too much damage at all.

Lots of animals inside though!

There was no way Sharon was going to leave all her hand raised possums and pademelons outside in a cyclone though, and before nightfall there were five pademelons and two possums in various rooms throughout the house!

Dinner time.

None of the rest of birds and animals in the forest seemed too affected as the parrots, riflebirds and honeyeaters turned up en masse the following morning and all the possums and wild pademelons were out in force the next night.

Thank you!

We have had numerous emails from our past guests in the last couple of days to see how it all went and how we fared. It is very much appreciated by Sharon and myself and we do look forward to seeing you again in the near future.
