Greetings!
It has been an eventful time at The Canopy, with one of our baby cassowaries badly injured, then recovering with the help of our local community. Read about it below, plus our other wildlife caring efforts and a special offer to welcome in Spring.
Baby cassowary saved
Community pitches in to save a cassowary chick
Baby cassie
One of our cassowary chicks who arrived in June has had a rough start to life!

We came across it one morning in the forest, trying to walk on a broken leg - an injury that would normally prove fatal.

But with the help of our local vet, neighbours and the community, its leg and life were saved.  Read more about this extraordinary story here
Baby cassowaries named
Cassie and Woorie
 Cassowary chick
Our naming competition winner is local vet Wendy. She operated on the injured chick, so when she called it Cassie, the name just had to stay!

Her name for the other chick was Woorie, after the nearby Wooroonooran National Park.

We appreciate her fantastic efforts to save Cassie, and hope she enjoys her two free nights accommodation at The Canopy.
Wildlife caring at The Canopy
 Baby possum
Our managers David and Sharon are passionate about caring for the rainforest wildlife. They regularly take in injured animals, nursing them back to health before releasing them back into the forest.

You can read more stories about their caring efforts on our Facebook page.
