Hello Friends! We are definitely in the dog days of summer and it doesn't look like there's any let up in sight! So...we should be working on things inside during the heat of the day. What would be more fun than painting some pots for your plant stand? It would be a good weekend project that you could do with the kids (who are most likely bored by this time of the summer!). Take a look below at the many fun designs and then do your own. Never, ever will yours look like anybody else's because it will have your special touch. If you don't like how one turns out....paint over it and start again! (Paint is so forgiving...) And don't forget to check out the special at the bottom of the newsletter! |

Painting Pots...Supplies
| | Painting Supplies |
As always, choose a theme if you intend to use one so that you have all of your supplies on hand when you are ready to create. It not only saves time, but also frustration. Items shown: Clay pots, one 6" and two 4" (we are using the pots needed for the Table Top Stand...a great smaller project to start with) Acrylic paint, Glaze, Paper plate, Paper towels, brushes, plastic fork. Not shown: clay drip tray and clear spray sealer. Consider foam stamps if you want to add shapes or designs. Or use your brush or a sponge to add unusual touches.

Painting Pots....Body and Lip

Paint the body of the pot with the acrylic paint. When dry, glaze the lip of the pot, inside and out, and the drip tray. I used Valspar glaze, mocha. Let dry thoroughly. Here is where you would use your stamps or add painted designs. If you like the brighter colors here, you can stop at this point and use the clear sealer, inside and out, to maintain this look. Follow the directions for safety!

|
Glaze and Finish
Paint on the glaze and then wipe off with a paper towel, leaving as much or as little as you like. The more glaze you leave on the less color will show through. Shown here is the difference between the unglazed and the glazed pot. A huge difference, don't you think? After the glaze is dried, seal with the clear sealer, again following those safety instructions on the can! Be sure to put on several coats, inside and out, to prevent the paint from peeling off when you water your plants.

Other Finishes
Here's Stephaine C's (Bryan, TX) version of pots. I have always loved this pic she sent.
This finish was done by painting on the glaze really thick and using a plastic fork to make the squiggles. Drying time is greatly increased with this finish, but it's lots of fun and really pretty when sprayed with the clear glaze.

I feel like I should be singing 'Happy Trails To You" at this point! There's always more that I could say but I guess I must save something for next time, right? Now it's your turn...get your supplies and get busy...and don't forget to send those pictures. I love to see what you are doing! PS..send them HERE!
