Mother's Day Edition May 2009 |
|
Dear Friends,
Welcome to the wonderful month of May! There are several holidays to decorate for this month, the first being Mother's Day which falls on the 10th. This is your opportunity to honor Mom and get back into the good graces of Mom-in-law if need be! Whatever the case, Mom is generally pretty easy to please. If she's a gardener, a plant stand with some hand painted pots might just be what she's been wanting. Or if she doesn't garden, consider a plant stand filled with goodies for her bathroom that will allow her some time to relax in her own private spa! After all, she deserves it!
We have two patriotic holidays this month also. The 16th is Armed Forces Day and Memorial Day falls on the 25th. So if you are using your plant stand for decorating purposes, change your Mother's Day decoration to red, white, and blue for the rest of the month. Remember, July 4th is right around the corner, so if you change your decorating for the month of June you can save the patriotic items for July.
This is also the month we announce our contest winners, so don't miss checking that out!
You can also follow me on Twitter now. I don't really get it yet, but my daughter, Lew, says I need to be there, so I am.
Onward......the best is yet to come!

CONTEST WINNERS! Congratulations! Well done!
Mr. Wilson has chosen our contest winners! He was so impressed with the entries, he wanted to dedicate a seperate, brief newsletter to show you more pictures and honor our winners. Watch for that early next week. |
A GIFT OF RELAXATION
Turn Mom's Bath Into A Spa!
Here's an idea Mom will really love...a gift of quiet relaxation. Here we used the Patio Stand and some plastic decorator pots. Following the instructions that come with your plant stand, place your stand into the base pot. Add about a half a pot of decorator rocks for weight. Drill a 3/4" hole in the center bottom of the rest of the pots if there isn't a hole already. Slide them onto the plant stand as directed. Fill with goodies such as her favorite lotion, bath salts, perfume, hair accessories, chocolates, a relaxing CD.... just whatever she might like to make her spa experience special. Dad might consider a coupon for an hour of watching the kids while Mom takes a break. (Diamonds work well, too, Dad!) To order your Patio Stand, go here. |
PATRIOTIC THANK YOU!
Show Your Support and Say Thanks!
For all they've done for us...a fitting tribute to our troops, both current and past. Wave our colors with pride and remember how precious our freedom is. Here's a great way to show your thanks. Red, white, and blue are the colors that don't run! Choose from a whole lot of decorative items, or use plants blooming in those colors such as geraniums and morning glories. Some blue flowers to choose from could include plumbago, duranta ageratum, salvia, and torenia. Add a few sparkles and you're ready for the celebration! Watch for more patriotic designs to come! | |
Painted Pots-Easy and Personal!
Add your own special touch for Mom on her own special day! Choose her favorite colors and add other decorations to make this a one-of-a-kind gift that you won't find just anywhere. It's really quite simple! Get the clay pots you need to match the size plant stand you have. Paint them with the colors of your choice. I use acrylic paints because they dry quickly. Leave color as is or soften with a glaze. After that, add whatever embellishments you like--consider using stencils or glue on decorative jewels. The little one's handprints are always a winner. I even used a decal on one of the pots above. Then seal with a clear acrylic sealer both on the inside and outside of your pots to keep the paint from peeling off! Plant the pots or fill them with goodies for Mom! See more pictures for Mother's Day suggestions on our Photo Gallery Members can login to print how-to instructions. Not a member yet?...join here! |
UNIQUE HANGER!
A Great Way To Keep Things Close Yet Out Of The Way.
This is a great idea for anyone who likes to take a break on the patio and have their magazines and other necessities handy. Follow the instructions for putting the hanger together except use 10", 8" and 6" pots. Cover the remaining part of the hanger that shows with an ivy garland from your local craft store. Consider decorating your pots by hand or using decorator pots. Hang next to Mom's favorite chair. Remember to safely attach your hook in a beam. This finished item may weigh as much as 40 lbs., so use a hook that will hold at least 50 lbs. to be on the safe side. Add extra chain if necessary to bring the hanger down to a more accessible level. Plant the bottom pot if you like and fill the upper pots with magazines, snacks, or even a pair of field glasses to catch a close-up of that little hummingbird on the feeder in the garden. Add a cold glass of lemonade and watch Mom's eyes light up! See the special below to get a head start for Mom. Order a hanger now. |

Next month is a special month for Dad. It's also a huge month for weddings, so if you have pictures of either occasion that you would like to share, email them to us in .jpeg form to FriendGarden@aol.com. Flag Day also falls on June 14th, so be prepared to show your colors!
I believe I'm going to have to dedicate a whole newsletter to painting pots. There's so much more to do than what I was able to show above. What do you think about that? Email me at the address above and let me know.
Time to go again. Have a wonderful Mother's Day! God bless you for all you do for us!
Sincerely,
Nancy Shelton Friendship's Garden, Inc.
