Changing Seasons
Changing Ourselves
With Fall Solstice approaching, soon we'll be saying goodbye to summer and hello to fall. In Traditional Chinese Medicine, this transitional period is related to the Earth Element and is a time to focus on nurturing and nourishing oneself, let go of worries, and get centered in preparation for the changes of the new season.

Summer tends to be busy, very active. I sure was busy this summer with moving off of Guemes Island, getting moved in to my new Old Town location, taking an Elders-sage class, attending a Qigong Teacher Training, giving presentations, starting classes. Did I leave anything out?

Now it's time to breathe. It's time to relax, to find some silence and prepare for change. Unfortunately, one of the things changes sometimes bring is the negative emotion of worry which is associated with the Earth Element. Fortunately, though, you can use this as an opportunity for mindfulness. Eat mindfully and slowly. Chew well. Be mindful about how you nourish yourself, both in terms of food and otherwise. Acknowledge your worries. Acknowledge your needs. Do what you need to do to feel your best.

One of the best ways to increase mindfulness, ease worries, and gracefully handle change is by having a daily practice, such as meditation or qigong. Another way is through receiving bodywork or energywork, such as Reiki, on a regular basis. See below for more details. But first, read the answer to the question you've all been asking......
What's in that Jar?
Many of you have seen me with my mason jar of mysterious green liquid. What is it? No, it's not moonshine with green food coloring. It's chlorophyll. Liquid chlorophyll added to plain old water. Well, not really "old" water. Just water. And why am I drinking it? Because chlorophyll is the building block of life and a gentle detoxifier. But my favorite thing about it is its color. Green is healing for the heart chakra and for the liver (wood element). Plus, it's fun! People give me strange looks and sometimes ask me what I'm drinking. Try it!

World Organics Liquid Chlorophyll is available at Anacortes Health & Nutrition, and also at Food Pavilion.

I love Reiki! Why do I love it? Because it's grounding, relaxing, and nurturing. It also contributed to what doctors called a "miraculous" recovery from my car accident in 1996. And I've been attuned and practicing ever since. It was my gateway into studying and practicing other healing arts.

So, what is Reiki? It's hands on (or off) energywork. Basically, the practitioner acts as a hollow reed through which energy flows, helping to direct and guide energy where the client needs it most. Reiki reduces stress and induces relaxation. When the body and mind relax, energy flows more freely, thereby removing blockages.

From a Traditional Chinese Medicine Perspective, energy blockages, or qi (chi) blockages, and murky qi are what create dis-ease, pain, and negative emotions. Moving that qi, through practices such as Reiki and Qigong, results in improved physical, emotional, and spiritual well-being.

I encourage you to try Reiki. Sometimes the body needs stillness more than it needs movement. Sometimes the body needs a still, nurturing hand, rather than or in addition to the rubbing actions of a massage.

Call to schedule an appointment and SAVE $5 on your first Reiki session when you mention this newsletter:
50 minute Reiki sessions for $45!
Or add-on 15-30 minutes of Reiki to a massage at $1/per minute.
