NWBOC News
NWBOC MarketPlace NWBOC applauds those businesses that have logged onto the MarketPlace as a vendor to select your product/service category! As a reminder, if you haven't chosen your codes, you can't receive bid opportunities.
To be listed as a vendor and a buyer is free to NWBOC certifieds --- a $600 value!
As a buyer, you have access to the contact information of other NWBOC certifieds and can purchase from one another and/or work together to bid on larger contracts/projects. It only takes 15 minutes to learn how to put an RFP or bid opportunity on the system. This is a great investment of your time.
Additionally, think about referring the companies with whom you do business to us. NWBOC is happy to provide buyers with a demonstration of the MarketPlace and how they can benefit. Or, as another option, you can provide NWBOC's contact information to them as well.
To sign up for the MarketPlace, go to www.nwboc.economicengine.com. If you have any questions, please call Janet Harris-Lange at 800-675-5066. For training or MarketPlace questions, please call Larry Hancock at 866-526-9266.
National City Joins Forces with NWBOC What is National City? Founded in 1845 in Ohio, National City is the 11th largest Bank in the United States. National City has partnered with NWBOC to strengthen their efforts and provide innovative methods for recruitment and sourcing with diverse suppliers. This will help ensure women, minority, veteran and service disabled business (WMVBE) enterprises have the opportunity to compete on an equal basis with other suppliers.
What is the purpose of supplier diversity and development at National City? To build a proactive and inclusive strategic sourcing process integrally linked to organizational business goals while targeting relationships with WMVBEs.
Why is WMVBE certification necessary? Certification serves as a marketing and development tool for WMVBE firms and a recruiting and pre-screening tool for corporations. Certification involves a series of steps performed by a third-party organization designed to validate the WMVBE classification of women-, minority, veteran and/or service disabled veteran-owned firms. The process does not address vendor evaluations or due diligence activities (credit analysis/capacity monitoring/background screening) associated with vendor selection.
How do you get started? 1. Proceed to the National City Supplier Registration portal www.nationalcity.com/supplierdiversity and complete the registration process with access to the following · Your firm's Dunn & Bradstreet & Tax ID Numbers · Copy of WMVBE Certification Document to upload into system · Detailed supplier data files to complete registration profile 2. Supplier Diversity & Development area will process the profile and share with appropriate sourcing representative on Corporate Procurement team 3. Based upon pipeline opportunities or immediate sourcing needs, Corporate Procurement will contact SDD and suppliers to respond to RFP requests 4. Upon completion of registration, suppliers may contact Supplier Diversity and Development area with any questions or concerns at: carolyn.lee@nationalcity.com or (216) 222-5707.

Success Stories of Our Certified WBEs
Meet Helen Russell, CEO and Co-founder of Equator Estates Coffee & Teas
Having earned her B.A. in Business from Northeastern University, Helen Russell always wanted to own her own business. The first endeavor was two espresso bars which were sold in the mid 90s to begin Equator Estate Coffees & Teas, Incorporated-a small boutique artisan wholesale coffee roasting company.
In January of 1995, Helen Russell and co-owner/founder Brooke McDonnell, embarked on the beverage frontier by creating a forefront company that commanded business efficiency with social responsibility and sustainable practices. They have achieved much success from coast to coast-not only in revenue but in reputation. The company has also achieved a loyal fan base of West Coast wholesalers, cross-country retail customers as well as chefs and bakers of the French Laundry in Yountville, California and Per Se in New York.
Under Russell's leadership for the company's strategy and revenue, Equator Estates Coffee & Teas has seen a 10-20 percent annual growth rate since its creation. Both owners plan to open a roasting facility on the East Coast to achieve more growth. Helen recently used the NWBOC certification to confirm Equator was a women owned business for an upcoming profile on CBS local Channel 5 television, Her Company, Her Vision.
In addition to Helen's focus on sales and customer service, she has volunteered her time and business experience to local and international organizations supporting women and the environment, including La Cocina Community Kitchen in San Francisco, the International Women in Coffee Alliance, Co-op America and C.E.O. Women. Helen has led efforts to make Equator a socially and environmentally responsible company by investing in an energy efficient roaster, a biodiesel delivery truck, and by purchasing coffees and teas from growers who practice responsible land stewardship and bio-friendly farming techniques.
"We believe that our efforts to support growers and the environment are a competitive advantage and we intend to remain in the forefront on issues of sustainability."
