2011 Bridges to Healthcare

The 2011 Bridges to Healthcare event was a great success! If you attended, thank you for coming and making the event so wonderful. If you couldn't make it, we hope to see you next year!

We are so grateful to everyone who made the 2011 Bridges to Healthcare possible. A huge thank you goes to:
  • Lorraine Williams, Debbie Rieke, and their crew of dedicated volunteers, including Kathi & Dick Misner, Vicki Cameron, Janet Williams, Yolanda Moisa, Larlene Dunsmuir, Janey Greenlees, Molly Olson, Linda Leis, Nyell LeFore, Melissa Jerome and many many more!
  • Hosts Emily and Joey Harrington
  • Emcee David Rabiner
  • Musicians Michael Liu, MD and Thomas Hwang, MD

2011 Bridges to Healthcare Thanks to the silent auction, paddle raise, Golden Ticket sales, and sponsorships, the event raised $47,000 for increasing access to healthcare for our region's low-income uninsured.  A special word of appreciation goes to Novo Nordisk, whose $5,000 donation during the paddle raise was the largest single donation at the event.

Thank you everyone!!

Gordon's story
Heide S. shared her story at Bridges to Healthcare. You can read her story here or watch the video featuring her here. Two other Project Access NOW clients attended the event: Patrick R. whose story you can read here, and Gordon E.

Gordon E.Gordon E. was "deathly sick and didn't know why." Because he couldn't put a sentence together and couldn't understand people, he thought it was a mental condition and finally decided to seek psychiatric help. Having no insurance, he applied and received a grant from DePaul Treatment Centers, and scheduled an appointment for eight weeks later.

While he was waiting, he found Wallace Medical Concern, where they told him to come in that day. The volunteer physician at Wallace sent Gordon to the hospital right away. For ongoing care, though, he connected him with Project Access NOW. Shortly after, Gordon was cared for by Project Access NOW volunteer and board member

Dr. Jill Ginsberg.

"It didn't take her very long to figure out I was a major diabetes case," Gordon said. "I had no idea how big the problem was."
Thank you, silent auction donors!
Silent AuctionOur silent auction played an important part in the success of Bridges to Healthcare....and the fun our gusts had. Please help us thank the auction item donors by frequenting their establishments or purchasing their products/services. Click through the list below to learn more about some of our incredibly generous donors.  We will introduce you to more of our silent auction donors through our next few newsletter.  Thank you!

Local Businesses that contributed to the silent auction at 2011 Bridges to Healthcare:

Extra Special Thanks to Judge & Sally Hicks and Marie & David Dahlstrom for their exceptional generosity with silent auction items and the Golden Ticket trip to Mexico.
Congratulations, award recipients!
2010 Bridges to Healthcare Award RecipientsThe efforts of Project Access NOW get essential support from all of the non-profit hospitals in our region who already provide a great deal of donated care on their own. Keeping all hospitals involved and engaged is crucial and the Hospital Equity Committee is where that happens for Project Access NOW. Our hospital partners have really wonderful individuals who work with us out of professional and personal commitment. We are fortunate to have them on our team. Thank you so much!

Play Poker for Project Access NOW!

There are still some spots left for folks to participate in a home poker tournament on July 23rd that will benefit Project Access NOW.  Mark Rosenberg and Ilene Safyan have graciously offered to host a fun (and slightly competitive) Texas Hold 'Em event in their home for a $50 buy in. The winnings will be shared between the winner and their charity of choice (we have a suggestion mind you;).  If you'd like to join in the fun, please e-mail Debbie@projectaccessnow.org to sign up.

Keep an eye out for other opportunities to enjoy yourself and support Project Access NOW!
