- Headsets (Avaya compatible)

- Cleaning service

- 4-post server rack or cabinet

If you or someone you know would like to donate these items, call us at 503.413.5541.

Thank you for your support!

Greetings!
Holiday decorationAnother amazing year dedicated to connecting people to healthcare is coming to an end - and another one begins.

We have learned through our evaluation process that what we are doing is making an impact in the lives of the people we serve. People report better health status at the end of their participation with Project Access NOW than at the beginning of their participation. Visits to the emergency room by patients while they are participating in our program go down more than 35%.

At the same time, we know there is still so much need that goes unmet. Connecting more and more people to care comes with the challenge of working in increasingly efficient and collaborative ways. We know we will never be able to meet all the need, but we're also pushing ourselves to do more to improve the lives of the most vulnerable in our community.

Finally, healthcare reform on the federal level means that just as we are fine tuning and expanding our current activities, we must start thinking about the very different reality that will exist five years from now and the many challenges that will present themselves in between now and then.  We want to see changes in healthcare delivery that result in everyone in our community getting healthier.

Together with many partners, Project Access NOW has made a difference in the lives of people in our community. We are firmly committed to continue to bring together many different individuals and organizations to work together toward our common goal: getting people the care they need.

We cannot do this without you and your support. Because next year brings more challenges and opportunities than ever, we need the same collaborative spirit to help fund our efforts. If you haven't taken the opportunity to make a donation to Project Access NOW, I invite you to contribute online now. And if you know of other people interested in supporting our work, please tell them about us. We appreciate your generosity.

Wishing you a wonderful holiday season and a successful 2011.

Sincerely,

Linda Nilsen-Solares
Executive Director

Why Project Access NOW?
In his TED talk Simon Sinek encourages organizations to always "start with Why" in all their actions and communications - the purpose. Our Why is the patients we serve.

Here are this year's patient stories, as published in this enews over the course of 2010.

Board member profile: Joe Ichter
Joe IchterThe latest addition to the Project Access NOW board happens to have the most experience with the Project Access model. In 1998 Joe Ichter, in partnership with the Santa Fe County Medical Society, founded the 8th Project Access program in the United States, in Santa Fe, New Mexico. In conjunction with his work in Family and Community Medicine at the University of New Mexico, he served as its Executive Director until 2007.

At the same time, "Project Access in the Portland/Vancouver area is more challenging than the Santa Fe community. There, we worked with 80 physicians and two hospitals. Here we have close to 3,000 physicians and work with 7 hospital systems and 14 hospitals. It's a lot more fun here, with different dynamics."

Staff profile: Elgin Dean
Elgin DeanWhen Project Access NOW was just getting off the ground with two busy staff, it became clear the organization needed to pay attention to technology support. Elgin Dean had been managing the Human Computer Interaction Lab at Lewis & Clark College and was identified as a recent graduate who could potentially jump in and help out with a variety of Project Access NOW's technology needs.

On a fine May day in 2008, he visited the tiny Project Access NOW office to learn more about this job opportunity.

"I did expect to be interviewed," Elgin recalled. "But as soon as I walked in the door, Linda asked me to start fixing things."

Elgin sailed through his slightly unorthodox interview and became the third staff member of the organization. Things have changed a lot since then.

Donate with TisBest
TisBest sample gift cardIn addition to donating online, you can support Project Access NOW in an environmentally sustainable way through TisBest.

TisBest allows you to give your friends and family the opportunity to make the world a better place by giving them a TisBest Gift Card this holiday season.

The card works like any gift card from a big box store - with one meaningful exception: The recipient directs the funds to one or more of 250 national and local charities on the TisBest website. Project Access NOW is one of a few nonprofits in the Portland/Vancouver metropolitan area selected to launch this program locally.

Buy the TisBest card here and TisBest will donate an extra $2 to Project Access NOW for each card purchased. They will also let your recipients know that you recommend the mission and work of Project Access NOW. Even if your aunt selects a pet focused charity, or your son chooses and environmental group, Project Access NOW still benefits from your gift!

If you are en employer in need of a unique gift for your staff, customers or clients this holiday season, consider TisBest as an option to "give twice".

Project Access NOW is in strategic partnership with United Way of the Columbia-Willamette.
