"I was very sick. I couldn't sleep, I couldn't do any basic household chores, and even a short walk would tire me. I would often be on the verge of fainting. I was diagnosed with uncontrollable angina and needed additional tests. But I had no insurance. Had I not been able to get into Project Access, I think I would have died. I am so grateful there were able to help me cover the cost of the tests. Based on those tests I was able to undergo angioplasty at the Rosewood Clinic. There's nothing I can say or do to repay Project Access. They've given me a new life."

Honoring Dr. James (Judge) Hicks at Open House on April 14th, 2009
|
Dr.
Hicks is Project Access NOW's founding chair. His leadership as a
volunteer physician has been crucial as we have connected more than 700
patients to care in the last year. As Dr. Hicks moves on to increased
leadership with the Oregon Medical Association and passes on the
position of Chair of Project Access NOW, we want to recognize him and
thank him for his contributions as we look forward to his continued
participation on our Board of Directors.
This is a critical time for Project Access NOW. We are connecting
people to healthcare. Today. As the number of low-income uninsured
swells over the next several months, we are committed to stand shoulder
to shoulder with our many partners to make a positive and significant
impact on the lives of the most vulnerable in our community.
Please join us as we honor Dr. Hicks and thank him for his role in the
founding of Project Access NOW and look together toward a future of
continued collaboration.
Please RSVP to Linda Nilsen-Solares:

| Project Access NOW welcomes community volunteers |
|
Community Volunteers are beginning
to appear on a regular basis in the Project Access NOW offices and are
a very welcome addition! As our program expands and patient
enrollment numbers consistently climb, these invaluable folks are bringing
their time, talent and expertise to share with us. They've successfully
initiated the patient exit surveys, which gather critical evaluation
data. They are also increasing our ability to navigate our
eligible patients through the detailed and varied medication assistance
programs. Read more about our community volunteers.

Legacy gives Project Access NOW a new home
|
Project Access NOW relies heavily on many partners for in-kind services. As we open our doors to you all to come and see our new
home, we'd like to recognize Legacy Health System and board
member Kari Stanley. Legacy has provided space, utilities and office
furnishings to Project Access NOW for more than two years. With one
staff person we started in a smaller space, with four staff people
moved into a larger space and now with the addition of our Community Volunteer Program we have moved into what we consider luxurious space
at 2145 NW Overton Street. We are so grateful, thank you!
While many organizations spend time and resource securing office space,
we have been very fortunate to have such tremendous support from
Legacy, Kari and her staff. This allows us to focus our time and
resources on the work of creating and supporting the volunteer network
and operational structure needed to connect people to healthcare.

Thanking Dr. Pitre and NW Urological Clinic
|
Project Access NOW entered Dr. Pitre's
radar at one of our promotional dinners. He worked at the Old Town
Clinic for 20 years and continued to see indigent patients at his NW
Urological Clinic office, so when he heard of the Project Access
concept, it was easy to come on board.
In his previous charity care
experience, he'd experienced having to cash in personal favors to get
people care. There was no consistent coordination of resources. "Now
that all major health systems are participating," Dr. Pitre said,
"Project Access takes care of all the logistics and allows me to do
what I do best: practice urology."

Uninsured
patients to benefit from The Boeing Company's support

Enhanced
IT Infrastructure allows Project Access NOW to serve
more patients with the same resources
Project Access NOW continues to demonstrate that partnerships go a long way
to doing good for the community. The Boeing Company has joined the
roster of the nonprofit's supporters with a $10,000 donation, which
will go toward the purchase
of a new information management system to increase the efficiency of
Project Access care coordinators.
"We
gave the Project Access NOW grant to support our corporate giving
strategy of supporting community-based programs that address
disparities in healthcare and projects that improve the efficiency of
healthcare," said Deanna Haley, Oregon Community Investor, The
Boeing Company Portland.
