Important Tips from the Law Office of Lorie L. Burch, PC

Happy Fall!

I hope everyone is enjoying the cooler weather and is looking forward to the spirit of the approaching holiday season.

As you all know, I strongly encourage everyone to take the important step of drafting Wills, trusts, living wills, powers of attorney and other estate planning documents.  However, I have been reminded in recent weeks how important it is to think beyond these documents in order to prepare your family and loved ones.  Below are some important tips that all my clients receive, but should be acted upon:

1. Be sure to keep your original documents accessible and let your family and/or designated agents know where you keep your documents.  I have provided all my clients a form letter that they may use: Letter to Executors and Agents

2. Make sure that you keep a list of where you keep important documents, such as deeds, financial information, and people to contact.  Also keep a list of user names and passwords.  My clients may use the following "Will Memorandum" form: Will Memorandum

3. Let your family and loved ones know the contact information for your estate planning attorney, CPA, and financial planner.

The hospitalization or death of a loved one is an extremely emotional and stressful time.  It is vital that you do everything possible to make that process as easy as possible.  Your family is counting on you.

For more information or if you have questions, please feel free to contact me.

Lorie
