Downtown Happenings - June 2010

There are always new things happening in the Downtown Bozeman area. Whether it's a new business opening, an existing business remodeling or just a simple update, I want to keep you informed about what going on in downtown!

Downtown HappeningsFirst, Main Street Quilting a Downtown Bozeman mainstay for over 30 years has recently relocated and is open for business.  Patchwork Quilting was the original name for the business when it first opened in 1977 and although the name and ownership has changed several times throughout the years, the business itself and the location of the business at 126 East Main Street had not changed a whole lot until just recently!  When Lisa Carter bought it in June of 2005, she had grandiose ideas of what she wanted to do with the business.  She knew she wanted to keep the same local fabric store with everything available for the avid or obsessed seamstress or quilter as well as the outstanding customer service they were known for, but she wanted to expand on that idea.  She started to do this by offering more classes and getting more involved with the quilting organizations and events.  But, what was next? read more

Downtown HappeningsNext another new and exciting business has opened its doors in Downtown Bozeman.  Cello is a retail business and art studio that according to the owner Nelda Zilis is providing "Design and art for everyday living by selling and designing functional items for the home and more."  This concept is very present from the moment you enter the beautifully designed space; from the industrial and modern designed shelving to the functional yet artistic display cases designed by Nelda and friend Eric Horn.  Cello offers an array of furniture, jewelry, clothing and other functional art while keeping it affordable and local.  Also, much of her merchandise come from re-purposed items such as using old wool sweaters and by adding a few zippers and pockets, she's been able to turn them into functional fashion!  There are also items like tables and lazy-susan's made with granite remnants from local stone and granite stores.  You can also find unique re-purposed decor from the home, like antique wheel planters, recycled glass wind chimes to pillows and napkins made from old pillow cases all with an elegant and modern design appeal.  According to Nelda, "she enjoy taking and/or selling something that ran its course and giving it a new life." read more
