Parking "P"Downtown Parking Garage Opens

After nearly 10 years in the making, the City of Bozeman's first parking garage, Bridger Park Downtown, was officially opened on April 13, 2009.

The $12 million facility accommodates 435 vehicles at its location between Tracy and Black avenues along Mendenhall Street, just half a block north of Bozeman's popular historic Main Street.

The parking garage now serves as the primary hub for the City's Streamline public bus system. The north and west sides of the facility feature approximately 10,000 square feet of new retail, restaurant and office space.

"We're really excited to have a brand new, high-tech parking facility that will meet Bozeman's needs far into the future," comments Paul Burns, Bozeman's new parking manager. "It's been a long time coming, but the community can be proud of the result as it significantly improves the parking choices downtown."  Read more

On March 5 a massive natural gas explosion rocked downtown Bozeman destroying several buildings and shaking the community to the core. The event forever reshaped Bozeman's historic Main Street, but it also bonded the community in a way beyond words.

In reaction to the downtown tragedy, photographer Ben Pierce produced "The Downtown Portrait Project"; an exhibition of photographs and stories featuring those directly effected by the blast.  Pierce's powerful photo essays dramatically reflect the trauma and triumph of that day. Shot the month following the explosion "The Downtown Portrait Project" also captures the spirit of the Bozeman community in a time of crisis.

The Downtown Portrait Project will be on display from May 1 through July 31 in Atrium Gallery at the Bozeman Public Library.  Proceeds from the exhibition will benefit the Downtown Relief Fund and the Tara Reistad Bowman Memorial Endowment Fund. The Bozeman Public Library Foundation welcomes the public to the Library for the Opening Artist Reception on Friday, May 8 from 5:30-7:00 p.m.  Read more
Downtown Partnership Annual Awards

The DowntowFlowersn Bozeman Partnership presented three awards at the 4th Annual Downtown Breakfast held Thursday, April 16, 2009.  The awards included the Downtown Cornerstone Award, the Downtown Community Award and the "Life is Downtown" Award.  The nominees and recipient for each award were selected by the Downtown Bozeman Association board, Business Improvement District board and Tax Increment Finance board.

The 2009 recipient of the Downtown Cornerstone Award is Owenhouse Ace Hardware.  Larry Bowman accepted the award on behalf of Owenhouse.  The Downtown Cornerstone Award recognizes a business that serves as an anchor to the downtown community not only economically, but socially, culturally and civically.  The business has demonstrated a long-standing commitment to downtown by sponsoring downtown events, supporting the member organizations of the Downtown Bozeman Partnership, while being an exemplary business leader. The 2009 nominees were the Country Bookshelf, Heeb's Grocery, MacKenzie River Pizza, Owenhouse Ace Hardware and Schnee's Boots and Shoes.

The 2009 recipient of the Downtown Community Award is Montana State University.  Jodie Delay, Assistant Director of Public Relations, accepted the award on behalf of MSU.  The Downtown Community Award acknowledges a business or organization that despite not being located downtown has provided exemplary support of downtown Bozeman.  This entity recognizes that the city of Bozeman and the entire Gallatin Valley benefits from a thriving downtown, and therefore, they have assisted the Downtown Bozeman Partnership in its efforts to promote and enhance the community's historic core.  The 2009 nominees were the Bozeman Daily Chronicle, the Bozeman Food Co-op, Bridger Bowl, GapWest Broadcasting, and Montana State University.

The 2009 recipient of the "Life is Downtown" Award is to Steve Schnee.  The "Life is Downtown" Award honors a person who has given a veritable lifetime of service to downtown Bozeman.  The recipient has exceeded the expectations of the community in their generous support downtown.  This person has devoted considerable time and effort to the betterment of the downtown community by volunteering for special events, serving as a downtown board member, and playing a leadership role in downtown initiatives.  The 2009 nominees were Bert Hopeman, Chris Pope, and Stev Schnee.
