Greetings!

UNDER-WAY

We are so excited that we have had our first recipients for the Radiant Works Scholarship. We have given support to applicant sfrom both Alachua and Marion County.   The candidate from Alachua County has plans to go further and work on her AS degree in order to get into the Medical Billing workforce. She has two young children.  Although priority is given to women with children, we assisted a young man in Marion County. We have received a note from the Marion County School Board that the young man passed with "flying colors" and we are awaiting confirmation from Alachua County. It was decided that if there were not enough women submitting applications we would give the opportunity to men. A total of 4 scholarships have been approved.

If you made a pledge at the last dinner to support this project and have not submitted payment, please do so at this time. Radiant Hands is confident once this process is underway we will have multiple requests. Remember we are committed to providing two scholarships each month for both Alachua and Marion County and can only do so with your support.

You are the future for these individuals who are struggling so hard to improve their situation. It is money well invested for the future.

DATE CHANGE - MARK YOUR CALENDARS

There has been a date change for the fundraising dinner. It will be held on Oct. 15, 2011. The location will be Gainesville Country Club. This is a beautiful location for a dinner. Our speaker, Dr. Elizabeth Ross from UF, will be making a presentation about Islamic and Christian architecture and art before 1516.

WOMEN'S GALA LUNCHEON/GIFT SHOPPE FUNDRAISER

This luncheon will be held at the Islamic Center of Ocala on May 11 at 11am.   1410 NE 14th Street

Mark your calendars. Tickets are $10.00 per person, gifts range from $1 to $10. The last luncheon was a great success, lots of goodies to enjoy and items for purchase. See you there.

PAYROLL DEDUCTION

Radiant Hands has once again been accepted by United Way to be involved in their Payroll Deduction Plan. If you work for UF, Shands, the city or any employer who permits payroll deduction, you can donate easily to Radiant Hands each pay period simply by writing in our name on forms supplied by the payroll department. Even if you don't see our name or number (UF employees look for # 3030 during enrollment time), you can write in Radiant Hands and initiate a deduction. For the price of a cup of coffee a week, you can make a difference in someone's life. It's easy and secure and best of all you dont have to remember to write the check.

MARCH FOR BABIES

March for Babies was held on Saturday March 26th. There was a small group of dedicated supporters walking together for Radiant Hands. We appreciate the support and look forward to more walkers perhaps next year.

FREE DENTAL CARE

The UF College of Dentistry is looking for people to be screened for certain kinds of cavities and/or periodontal issues who are willing to volunteer as patients for DMD State Board Exams.

Ideal candidates:

--20 to 40 years old with no significant medical problems.

--Have not seen a dentist in a while.

--Should have no latex allergy.

--The board exam is given June 3 - 5, and selected patients need to be available on one of the selected days, for a few hours in the morning to have a dental procedure at no cost to you.

Interested in learning more?

--Email us at

ufdental2011@gmail.com

--We'll contact you to arrange an initial screening to see if you are an ideal patient for the board exam.

Important note

--The dental screening will be a limited evaluation to determine if you are a candidate to serve as a patient for the DMD student board exam, and does not serve as a comprehensive dental evaluation.
