Greetings!
Fundraising Dinner for Pakistani Refugees:
Friday, May 29, 2009
7:30pm
Hoda Center
SW 13th Street
The Muslim community is coming together on May 29th, 7:30pm at the Hoda Center on SW 13th Street in order to help the refugees being displaced in Pakistan due to the current conflict. Dinner will be provided.
Some 1.5 million people, women, children, elderly have been displaced and made homeless because of the ongoing conflict in the border area of Afghanistan and Pakistan. These peolpe through no fault of their own have been forced to move and live in camps all over the northern areas of Pakistan. The enormity of the situation and the quickness with which it has deteriorated is beyond the capacity of Pakistan's resources. Sanitary conditions are so bad that people can not properly wash themslves to perform even daily prayers. People are dying for lack of medicines. These people need tents, food, medicine, water, electricity bascially everything.
Please come to the dinner and donate generously. Brother Mahdawi has put a goal of $50K for our community. Surely all Muslims from different backgrounds, including Arabs, Bangladeshees, Indians, Iranian, Pakistanis and Turkscan come together in harmony to raise this amount.
Please pass this message to others. If you can not attend the dinner, please make a donation and leave it in Donation boxes in Hoda Center, Write Pakistan Relief Fund on the envelope. A committe comprising of Brs. Mansoor, Taqi, Siddiqui, Kaleem, Mahdawi will be responsible to disburse the funds. Please feel free to contact Dr. Saeed Khan for any questions. Remember What Allah has said, "And spend of that with which We have provided you, before death comes to one of you and he says: "My Lord! If only You would give me respite for a little while, then I should give Sadaqah (i.e. Zakat) of my wealth , and be among the righteous." (Al-Munafiqoon; 63:10)
