Greetings!
Happy Equinox. Have you noticed the shifting of the season? Many might say 'How could you miss it!'. The days are getting shorter and the nights are cooler. There is the faint but unmistakable change of color and smell in the vegetation. This is a time of change. Yet, today we are perfectly balanced. The length of day and night are equal.
Have you ever really considered what this signifies? Everyone says how they want to find balance, yet what does that really mean to you? Every persons sense of balance is unique and individual to them. Life's balance is not linear, like East to West, but more like a platform teetering on a pin. Just when you get it fairly level, in equilibrium, something else shifts causing you to adjust again. In life, we have to constantly re-adjust to keep balance. And so it goes.
We will explore balance this month. What does balance mean to you? What do you need to add, or even subtract, to your life to bring your life into some state of equilibrium? I leave you with this thought as you enjoy the coming fall!

A time of change
What is balance? Defined as a state of equilibrium, balance is the harmonious arrangement of all parts. Equal parts. Like the balance of day and night, black and white, winter and summer. Like work and play.
How many of you regularly find balance in your life? What does balance mean to you? Is it doing the activities you love? Is it spending time with your family? Is it being in the mountains, watching a spectacular Colorado sunset, or reading a great book?
Or, are the demands and unpredictable events in your life over-riding your system? What would it take to bring more balance into your life? Is it more play? More time with family? More self-care? More boundaries? Less reaction?
An exercise in balance
If you were to rate one particular area of your life, on a scale of 1-10, what would you give it (where 1 is 'not at all' and 10 is 'absolutely'). For example, your self-care. If you rate your satisfaction at a 3, what would make it a 5, or even a 7? By bringing up the level of satisfaction in this area, you could bring up your sense of balance. What action, or new way to look at this situation, could help you increase your sense of balance?
As we move into the quieter time of the year, I invite you to consider what it would take for you to have more balance in your life. It's not magic, but it is a discipline. That means anyone can do it! If you need help, I would be happy to explore with you how to bring your life into balance! | |
